I was freezing at the end !
My mate took a pic
I’d have done a few press ups if I’d have known.
There matchstick arms.

Well done fella
Congratulations @Mungo2
Fantastic mate - that sounds like a real tough combination of events
Are you home now @tunster ?
Yes - a pretty uneventful 4.5 hr drive including a couple of quick stops for coffee/food
Swiftly followed by a 2 hr kip on the couch
It’s my last go …
He’s not putting it on next spring
Might have to do an actual duathlon
No cup
No win
But looking at the winner 55-60 today I shouldn’t be toooo far back
Edit
It’s a national champs … ignore above.
See how we go
Decent all round @Mungo2
Well done
Just caught up on the latest action - well done to you all (including those who DNFd), especially to those on their respective podiums. You’ve inspired me now to enter a race… an 8k cross country one this coming weekend (so, er, not quite up to your ridiculous length events, but it’s something right!).
Will there be mud ?!?
I hate mud
Your a brave man … good luck
Hopefully it won’t rain much this week, otherwise there will be mud!
gearing up for second aquathlon in 13 hours
Edit: OK 2 race reports in 1 go
First aquathlon, a small pool based open event run by our club. The evening was not crazy hot, but after overheating rather badly at duathlon recently I decided to try running with a bag of ice in my hat. Game changer! It felt amazing.
Sadly I have lost a lot of run fitness over the summer but swam OK, chip time of 7m52 for 500m including the entry and exit so probably closer to 7m40 in the water. On the run I could see there were faster runners but gritted teeth for 20m45 for the 5km.
At the end there were 3 of us all within 15 seconds, but the dice rolled my way. At the medal ceremony bit the announcer looked at us poor old dogs hobbling around and struggling to climb up onto the podiums and said “as you can see, there is some stiff competition today” - he knew exactly what he was doing
Second aquathlon race this morning was a much more serious business. National series race, the season opener. Blue carpets, road closures, drones, TV, and prize money
I felt OK but still ploddy on the 2nd run. Did about as much as I could, and brought the bag of ice again. 9m30 for the first 2.5km but was over-extending a bit. 1000m swim was in the harbour but must have been long, 19 minutes. And then about 11 minutes for the second 2.5km. Looks like this may have been good enough for second old man & an envelope… unfortunately I had to hare it straight to work but someone else from the club has picked up the envelope instead. If it contains coins of the realm, as I supsect it mght, I’m going to use it to host a tri club party. They are a great bunch of people and if it wasn’t for them I would have few friends out here.
There was rain, there was mud but trail shoes were just about fine. The racing snakes up front wore spikes but us regular folk mostly were on trail shoes.
My time was pretty much exactly the same as three years ago but this time I paced it much much better - which made for an altogether more enjoyable race. Just over 33 minutes for about 4.5 miles.
Running the same when older (and a bit heavier) is a win in my books.
Towards the end I edged past one chap who said “you go fella, I think I’m about to throw up”
some drone footage of aquathlon yesterday
Thats cool, don’t know what I expected but less high rise than I thought. Because its old town?
Think its the actual old shipping port, but has been developed into a touristy type area with shops and restaurants, there’s also a cruise ship terminal.
The sea is still 31C so was a bit on the soupy side for racing in
The development squads from Kuwait and Bahrain pitched up - some pretty fast young uns - the winner put 10 minutes into me (was a 40 minute race for me, but 30 for them).
Edit: Envelope just arrived for 2nd old man, looks like brunch is on me
Edit #2: DOMS today, after just 2 X 5km races. Definitely getting old
Shit - just seen reports from WT that 2 athletes have died at the WT AG Sprint race today. One Brit, one Mexican.
No other info yet.
Terrible news
Not wishing to spam the thread with yet another race report, but the season is well and truly underway here and today was the 2nd race of the National Series. A draft legal sprint Tri back at the old port.
Mrs FT came along with her camera, heres a couple of pictures to warm you up
Got into a group of 5 riders on lap 1 of the bike & stayed with them, it made a huge difference, although some sprinting out of the turns and roundabouts was required.
The run was 3 laps on an exposed headland… exposed to the sun with zero shade, honestly I was so cooked, you could have stuffed me and served me with parsnips. Slow run but everybody suffered, the guy in our club who is a 16 minute 5km runner ran 20 minutes so I wasn’t completely gutted with 24.
Ended up first dinosaur again, that’s 2 out of 2 so far, brought out the red trousers for the occasion
very enjoyable start to the day
good luck Jeff and others racing this weekend
