All things Turbo

Cheers Buzz

Just a random thing I discovered this week.

Wahoo Kickr I’ve had since 2020.

Never been able to do a Zwift workout as it never adjusted the power. Also never seemed to find a draft effect when doing races.
Was fine using PerfPro

Bought the new Cog and Click a couple of weeks ago.
Couldn’t get the Click to connect.

Turns out it’s Bluetooth only.

Took my ANT+ stick out.
Connected fine.

Also seems the ANT+ was the reason for my other issues as well.

Managed to jump on the turbo and see what’s what tonight. All the tech is working fine and I went for one of the Zwift Unlocked routes. Bike itself was fine (amazingly) and trundling along was ok but if I went over approx 150watts, the belt was slipping, which wasn’t great.
I finished the route and the numbers don’t mean anything because I haven’t calibrated the Direto.

Good to be pedalling again and that’s my longest ride in over two years! backside will not be happy tomorrow

I could probably try adjusting the belt again but I’ve had that turbo for over 8 years, so a new one wouldn’t go astray.

Bit of luck (I hope!). Bumped into the chairman of my cycling club at the cafe yesterday. He’s bought loads of stuff from me in the past and is a good bloke.
Mentioned about my turbo and he said he got an amazing deal on the latest Kickr Move, or some other whizz bang model. He said this left him his 2yr old original Kickr Core to sell.
It comes with an 11sp Shimano cassette, Ant+ dongle and the original Zwift Play controllers.

He really looks after his stuff and is an engineer and said he’d want Ā£200 if he advertised but Ā£150 from me and the Direto he can take away and may be able to fix.
I’m not so worried about the Direto side, but Ā£150 seems ok for the Kickr doesn’t it?

Sounds pretty good with all those bits.

It’s a bargain and I would snap it up.

Very good :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Quick update on the 2nd hand Core offer. I tried it for about 10 days, as my mate said he wanted me to be totally happy first, but it was very patchy with my network, which is usually pretty solid with the Direto, The Zwift Play controllers were pretty much useless because I has to use the phone as a bridge and they were very temperamental,

I let my mate know and he was fine with taking back but as a bonus, he’d managed to free the adjusters on my Direto and tightened up the belt. I put it back together together today, feels ok on a two minute spin but I’ll do a proper session soon.

I’m going to hang off replacing for now because I don’t need to add anything more on my plate and besides, the budget has been blown on the home office. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I’m thinking about moving my trainer out of the garage and into the house. I just don’t have the desire to brave the cold anymore.

Any tips for noise? Towel under the turbo?

I don’t change gear and leave it on erg mode.

Halfords and B&Q sell sets of interlocking foam tiles, I have these under mine, do a good job of sound insulation and protecting the floor, 12 notes currently

Speakers don’t really matter much as long as they go loud, you won’t hear good quality music over the bike and fan noise, so just something that can go loud and some music you like to ride too.

Ah yes I have some of those or similar, forgot about them :+1:

Get some really big speakers :speaker_high_volume: turn them up loud.

So my Jetblack - after a very turbulent start - seemed to have settled down. Power drop outs have become a thing of the past and things were mostly good.
Swapped the crankset and chain on the bike recently and it all felt rubbish again. Big chain ring and I seemed to get vibrations, small chain ring was much better but felt like I was pedalling thru sludge - had this back in Dec 2024 when was going through mutiple units.

New crankset was 170 vs 172.5 on old - which I was hoping might help my hip a bit…. spins freely backwards.
So tried all the calibration and re-checked installations - all seemed ok. Could just be placebo but its in my head - which I don’t react well too…

Anyway got an itch - scratched it :see_no_evil_monkey: Prob still feel as bad and can trouble shoot some new issues instead. Great price mind from start fitness!
