Double post.

I cycled the Northern Irish coast at the weekend with a few mates. From Derry, round Malin Head and then along the north and east coast back to Belfast.

Coming into Derry on the train

View from the Grianan of Aileach hill fort (very tough climb with bikepacking kit)

Long climb on the remote road to Clonmany

View north from the top

Malin Head (northernmost point in Ireland)

Day 2 - Moville to Ballycastle

Outside Moville (we did an out and back to the ferry as it was recommended by Timmy Mallett!

Outside Port Rush, so this is probably the famous golf course (not that I’d know)

Managed a pic that wasn’t heaving with people!

I’ve seen a lot of ruins in my time, calling this a castle is close to breaking the trade description act though

Day 3 - Back to Belfast

Fair Head (about a 10 minute walk from the end of the single track road)

Near Torr Head, a couple of wicked climbs here

Heading back into Belfast, a good coastal path all the way to the port

We are at the hotel in Portland… Apparently there is a coast out there somewhere

Good luck FP

my family still haven’t forgiven me for the time I took them for a walk in the fog on Portland, got completely disoriented among the quarries and ended up in the prison complex, a big fenced car park with barbed wire and searchlights that we struggled to find the way out of.

We are in the cafe waiting on lunch and to check in. Then we will walk to the lighthouse but I’m hoping via trails.
We are pretty high up here

There are significant sections of the coast path that are closed apparently. With some confusing diversions, so keep your wits about you if you end up there. :+1:

I’m hoping it’s like that in a fortnight when I go, pretty grey further south.

There’s a lot of nice coast in the UK
