Have you got shares in plasticine?
Joking aside I agree, it would be like not have a bar in the high jump and just using hawkeye to say who went the highest.

They don’t use plasticine anymore. :frowning:

Edwards was revolutionary at the time. Previously the event was mostly dominated by strong men doing 3 takeoffs, he came in with much more speed and a skipping stone approach.

I suspect it won’t stand much longer. The current crop are getting close but would not be described as top tier athletes. It will take a top college sprinter or long jumper to make the switch and it will go.

They were half expecting it to go at Paris but it stood, but yeah agree with your other points.

Hmm, I’m sure a lot will say this is too good to be true but for now that’s a very rapid time.

Can’t be long before a sub 2 hour marathon in a race happens.

Impressive. I am guessing he has just started a bidding war for London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Chicago marathon appearances this year. Plus booked himself a lot of early morning WADA wakeup calls over the next few weeks.

WADA don’t do the testing  It will be down to his National Anti Doping and NGB. I’m sure they will be as rigorous as the UK and US though.

Faith Kipyegon is going to try and break the 4 minute mile barrier this evening (Thursday). Can be watched on YouTube from 6:15pm UK time. The broadcast is scheduled for an hour so expect it to kick off towards the end. Her best (she’s the current record holder) is 4:07.64.

(edit) A bit about how it may be done - and pacing strategies.

Race is meant to start at 7pm UK time.

That’s a sporty improvement on her PB.

Shoes need to be sold!

Ah right, just seen it’s not a ā€˜legal’ attempt, rather a Kipchoge style best human effort.

Who’s running the book on this?

50p says she doesn’t break 4 mins.

Run behind a car or truck… total joke. What has the world come to?

Do it in Wellies and Page me if / when done.

Just like Kat and sub 8… great… amazing but it will be done legitimatly soon… maybe by the same people / person.

Will Kat or Laura or someone else get there first.

Yes but I needed assistance

Think I did it once.. . Half a mile on a bus then the half run. Run off a bus requires practise.

However I nailed it.

Well that was a little underwhelming

I found it hard to follow. They said ā€˜ look how far ahead of the green light she is’.

MrsF laughed and said ā€œwhat a load of shi*e. All that money spent on this.ā€

As for the pacers - I’m no aerodynamics expert but do the ones at the back actually help?
