A little lesson learnt at the weekend.
Riding mate had a puncture and his pump wouldn’t work, no problem, I’d got mine.
Got pump out but no matter what we tried couldn’t unscrew the flexible tube from the body of the pump. Fortunately another rider had a pump too but had I been on my own that would have been game over.
I use a track pump at home so the mini pump rarely gets used and it never occurred to me to check the thread hadn’t seized. Undid easily with pliers when I got home and copious amounts of white dust from the corroded thread. Now greased up to prevent in future but I wonder how many of us are carrying pumps around but have never checked something like that.
I tend to think of CO2 as race equipment so carry them on my TT bike (and had to use one the other night) but my road bike has the pump permanently attached (to the bottle cage) and if I’m in no particular rush pumping the tyre up is no great inconvenience.
Sure they were on Wiggle when i was looking the other day?
Bike is in mate’s LBS next Monday for a service. Asked him to get me in a new chain and chuck that on, so might ask him to chuck in some Co2 onto that order as well. Don’t mind paying a few more quid every now and again to a mate (obviously can’t afford to go doing that all the time!! haha).
If you are in the vicinity of a country shop that sells air rifles you can usually get them for a much reduced price. - They are used to power CO2 Air pistols so they generally sell bulk packs
Following on from yesterday’s rant both cranks are now sucking up some DOT3 brake fluid having been heated and rapidly cooled <wanders off to eBay to see what’s out there>
