I used to keep a spare set of clothing in the office as back-up, partic if there’s an unexpected downpour on the way in. If it’s waterproofs then you could hang that somewhere, as it will dry quicker. Then take the spares for the layers underneath? Not a lot else you can do really, but as long as the layers in skin contact are clean and warm, then the damp outter layers wont have an impact if it’s not too cold.
Ah spring… when you switch from not being able to see riding home thanks to the low sun; to not being able to see riding in;
And where you get to carry your entire cycling wardrobe for the 15+C temp swing.
Due to the clock change I presume you get it twice in spring? It’s like that on my drive.
We had some frost as well this morning
It’s not normally too bad going in until the clocks change. Think just cause of the slightly North-East/South East journey I do. But pre clocks change I was getting it pretty bad coming home.
Soon be winter
Think it’s definitely a factor to consider when buying a house… live to the north, south or east of your workplace.
Becauase if you are dazzled by the sun in the morning on the way in, and on the evening on the way home, the drivers behind probably are too. And sooner or later it may not well.
(Unfortunately I only realised this having bought a house 10 miles west of my workplace. Exactly the worst place. There was nothing for it, had to change jobs.)
The flyover couldn’t have been worse located if they’d actually planned it, just on the ramp where the sun is directly in front
Clearly it was designed by someone who doesn’t live locally!
100% and I’m very paranoid about it. I run lights all year round now front and back. At the moment still doubled up as well. So doing what I can - but its always on my mind.
Cycling in City of London rises by more than 50% Cycling in City of London rises by more than 50%
Good start but would love all of London to get some Dutch planners in to redesign cycling for the whole city and make it similar to Amsterdam.
Whilst it’d be expensive, especially adding extra infrastructure with busses / trams etc surely a healthy walkable / cycleable / good public transport city would see massive savings in other areas, especially the NHS.
Unfortunately the UK for the most part still thinks a cycle lane is a bit of paint at the side of the road.
To be fair, most of the cycling infrastructure put in since the start of Covid has some degree of segregation, whether it’s solid curb stones or soft bollards that get repeatedly taken out by motorists
The Tory mayoral candidate campaigned on the basis that she was going to rip out all of the cycle lanes and make them back into vehicle lanes
TBH I find the segregated lanes more scary than the open roads because of the number of people cycling like dicks on them
And the pedestrians who dont look before stepping into them
Similar to my house as the kids have left & I continue to accrue bikes.
I really love that
The FT family is currently contributing 2 central London bike commuters too
I’ve been commuting by bike since 1999.
In the winter you hardly saw any other cyclists on the roads except the cycle couriers
That looks too good to be true!
Can’t say I noticed a decline from the 90s to the 2010s but certainly the last five years do feel like a step change occurred.

Only two people tried to kill me on the weds commute in, and zero this morning…although one was thinking about it.
Hope you get there soon
