The bearings arrived.
Got the drive side one in … but now need a 17mm over axle adapter to press in the non-drove side.
FFS.
QR / rim brake wheels aren’t this hard.
That’s progress.

New gravel triathlon in Scotland.
run by the same guys as Celtman I wonder??
I bought some WMFG ones for £20
Still tightAF.
Put the bearing and axle in the freezer, slid in like Prince Andrew to a sleepover
A week of waiting for bits for a 15min job.
Real progress these thru axles and disc brakes and internal routing (yeah, my headset has gone. Again. FFS)
Yes, same folks. I’m quite tempted.
The bike and the run bit oh yes, swim er maybe not.
And yet bike shops go out of business. This is why we need them!!!
Yes I know there are some seriously dodgy mechanics out there and I know the prices are going through the roof but if you find a good one and you treat them well, they’ll treat you well. Promise.
What was frustrating for me and my 303s was that the bike shop in Nottingham where my son got the rear wheel looked at and ended up having it rebuilt with a new hub but didn’t check the bearings. So when it was put back on the bike it still wasn’t right. Silly and timely mistakes as it resulted in another PITA trip to get it sorted. If he was at home then I would have done it like @Poet
Mark Redwood is a mobile mechanic now, IIRC?
He was good at TFN in Beeston
(Notts based)
I know. That’s why I add about finding a good one. The bike industry is sadly so full of charlatans it’s unreal. It’s so frustrating for those trying to do a good job.
Will pass on his details to my son
Or is it the case that 90% of the jobs mechanics have to do are so mundane - punctures, brake pads, chains - that most can get away without the skills to do really hard jobs, and presumably the top mechanics are worth more per hour, which means 90% of the time they cost more.
I’m just thinking allowed, but while I would travel and pay for a mechanic to do a thorough service on my TT or my nice bike, nobody is making a living off my 2 trips to a bike shop per year.
Suspension forks for gravel bikes yay or nay? I’m considering a fork with 30mm travel, but it might be naff and pointless
RockShox Rudy Ultimate 700c XPLR Race Day Fork – Sportandleisure.com
Depends where you will be riding I guess. I know someone who got a RockShox stem and raves about it, but he also has a mountain bike for when he is going really rough.
For me, I don’t want to compromise the on-road riding too much, so I wouldn’t put a suspension fork on.
Yeah I think I agree. I’ve ordered a suspension stem. The eeSilk. Suspension forks are overkill for my groad rides and look with drop bars.
I didn’t get into Badlands gravel race 2025. Better luck next time. Now I need to find something else “gruelling” to do… Didn’t get into Maratona Dolomiti either. Really doing well.
Gravel Burn in the western cape in SA? First edition in November - organised by the guy that started Cape Epic. Looks like it’s going to be awesome.
That looks interesting. Not what I had in mind but definitely more adventurous than Europe.
How about…
