Well I was in Muscat last week briefly and it’s a nice place with friendly people. Expensive to get to from Blighty though and, personally, I’d only fly with Emirates as friends have had issues with other carriers’ performance (cancellations, delayed refunds etc) due to the conflict. A long trip just for a short racing break for sure. I was eyeing IM Oman myself earlier in the year but work stress made the idea laughable. Sorry to hear about Barca. Me, I’d see if there’s any remaining UK races, get my racing fix, recover for a few weeks, then target Lanza the King of IM events.
Another idea dont make your run course through a normally dry river bed…
I dont remember the flipped car being on the route guide or an up stream river swim three times on the run route.
It is very bad atm
At least you have something else to keep you entertained as you’re not being tossed about in the waves ![]()
At breakfast now and some of it is flooded…
Helicopter buzzing around… just gone to the car in the river I think, cant see from the restaurant. Of course 80% of people got up and took a picture of the Helicopter (sod that brealfast time)
Surely an opportunity for an IM/tough Mudder collab?

I’ve had the full gammut of Ironman weather, but also had a lot of mechanical and meteorological fortune over all of my full distance races. Finshed them all and a non wetsuit swim was the only adjustment for weather I experienced. These days it seems like more of a risk, as I’m sure the 40 degrees we had in 2015 in Frankfurt would have resulted in changes now. In fact i think they did half the run course there this year? All they did in 15 was try and route it through more shade by the river.
I’ve now seen 2 people run past me in full kit including their race number ![]()
Edit: there’s even more of them ![]()
Cretins ![]()
Twats…
Ive got my stinger ready if they come past me (shame they arent on bikes.)
Probably need to make use of the PEDs
Probably one and dones who’d already booked the tattoo.
I’ve heard a few of the younger crowd who are now coming to triathlon say ‘oh I’m doing an Ironman next’ upon further questioning its a half/70.3. Thats not an Ironman then!
I’ve seen a few comments on Threads and Insta from people who claim they have run “a marathon”. In one case, it was a “10k marathon”, the other a “20k half marathon”. What world do these people live in??
Yeah that is next level ![]()
I saw a lady on insta who filmed her first “ultra”.
Turned about to be a 25km ultra ![]()
Whatever world it is, fortunately it’s not one I have any contact with.
No idea where I posted this but that’s literally what my cousins wife put on insta.
Fortunately my cousin actually did the 50km and DID NOT put it all over insta.
You mean a Half-Ultra?

Most of my ultras seem to be half the distance lately!

Technically, i suspect that’s an “infra”
I keep seeing this more and more, 70.3 being ironman and short “ultras” (less so the weird marathons). Now granted it’s mostly amongst the influencers that seem to inflate it, but if I was to give benefit of the doubt I wonder if many wre just copying what they’re hearing in the circles around them, without awareness from members of groups that might gatekeep those terms to original meanings.
They go to an ironman website and see two types of ironman - in their heads they’re doing one of them. Ironman has removed the half/full branding. Same with many ultras offering a 25km version of the ultra.
