I’ve been out, just tuning in now.
and the winner of this year’s Olympic ‘marathon’ in a time of 57 minutes is…
it will be olympic records all round then…
I’m sure I remember some shorter races last Olympics.
The forward facing boats (canoe?) where their stroke rate is so fast you can barely see the oar/paddle … didn’t we win a gold last time?
You can tell I have very little idea what I’m talking about
BMX has jut 2 events and requires a whole special course, and tbh, if the rowing didn’t have so many events, they could’ve used it for the triathlon too…
I watched the BMX last night. FMD, how many watts are they pushing in those first few seconds?
incredible athletes, must be in a whole world of pain by 15seconds, and yet still have the reactions of a cat to control a child’s toy bike
@pacha all that lactic acid in those legs
Canoeing (which is also kayaking) there was a silver in the slalom and a bronze in the 200m Kayak which is certainly a blur of oars.
I don’t think anyone in the UK really does flat water in a canoe.
Sure I heard somewhere that BMX riders have the most power output of any cyclist. Might just be a ‘pub fact’ but more than track sprinters and certainly more than road race sprinters.
I’m sure the rowing purists hate this, but for sustainability, adapting the events to prevent huge spends on new infrastructure has to be a good thing.
Although as it’s USA we will also get Swimming in a 50yd pool and Running on a 440yd track.
British Cycling went to BMX riders to lead out team sprints a few years back - Jamie Staff and Shanaze Read
It’s the cadence isn’t it.
I remember a YouTube clip a while ago of a drag race between a bmx, a mtb and a TT bike if i recall. Bmxer absolutely flies off the start, as you’d expect, before the TT bike gets up to speed and bombs past.
Imagine what the BMX riders could put down if they had a bike fit……
not have artificial knees by age 60…
Pedants corner - canoeing and kayaking are different things. Canoeing = kneeling and using a single bladed paddle; Kayaking = sitting and using a double bladed paddle
In the olympics, kayaking comes under canoeing.
Which is why I phrased it as I did.
Watching the gymnastics again. Johnny Vegas really knows his stuff!
Let’s be grateful they haven’t bought Stand Up Paddle boarding in….
scheduled for LA…
i fear…
Combine it with Jorgan’s version and I’ll allow it
Bryony Page, get in. bouncy bouncy
