I’d imagine that it’s the local tourist board that decides, and it’s whatever they think will attract the most tourists (athletes).
Probably a negotiation. IM will want to attract athletes. Local/county councils to advertise themselves.
If they align, perfect. But I don’t for 1 second imagine the ‘Sir Benfro’ Welsh word for Pembrokeshire that appears with IM Wales these days came from IM.
I wonder what Hull would call their Ironman, hypothetically…
