Ironman Lanzarote 2021

So general rule of thumb is the front is more important than the back ?

Yes. The front gets pulled around more because it’s attached to the bars while a greater proportion of the rider’s weight is over the rear wheel. A couple of years ago I dnf in a 12 hr tt. Was going ok but the wind started to get up and pull my front 80mm deep front around. I spent a couple of hours fighting it before deciding to call it a day.

Thanks.

Got a training week in Lanza in March so will try them out and take a spare front.

Cheers for the advice all.

Which camp are you on? I am on Coach Cox’s camp first week in March

Just on my own for a week at sands beach mid March with an understanding family

To echo others comments, rode a 100 back, 30 front last year, really wouldn’t have been comfortable on anything deeper coming down out of Teguise with those side winds

am out 2nd week in march :swimming_man: :biking_man: :running_man:

Picked up a set of Vision 35’s from PX last week for just £121 !

Will use that on the front, and full disc on the rear. Trying to get to 70kg, another 3kg to go. Next week will be just 3.5 months left - woohoo !

Ooh, I don’t need em but that’s tempting. Is it these, now £135?

Nice

They are the ones. There’s a 10% discount code as well that takes them to £121. Solid training wheels

I had Zipp 404’s on road bike, I am also a cautious descender, the gusts certainly had me backing off the front was pretty ‘twitchy’ I would not have been on aerobars had I had them. The other thing that made me back off was the shower of wee I collected from a guy about 20m ahead of me on a descent.

That’s rank. Did you get an opportunity to say anything to him?

Couldn’t catch the fella, one of the super tanned lean athletic looking types that swim slow but bike and run like the wind…as opposed to a whitey from Blighty, lard arse cyclist that shuffles the run. Also after spending many years in the Fire Service (communal showers) I have been golden showered by better men than him.

(Apologies to any ladies that read this)

ffs thats another classic race ruined , one of the reasons for doing the race is its classic format ;-(

the swim was part of the challenge ,i used to fear the swim but that was all part of the race!!, you knew everyone was on the same playing field !!

I loved the Mass Starts, and still think they are iconic sights. However, my first experience of a Rolling Start in Hamburg was positive, in that even as a veteran of many an Ironman, I felt less ‘stress’ at the start. So that can only be a good thing for the uninitiated.

load of bollox , the whole concept was you start together and first to complete all 3 swim bike run the quickest was the winner .

I can understand and empathise with that premise; but Ironman as an organisation has ‘had’ to make some changes with the swim portion. Ironman have to be seen to be taking some action to mitigate the swim deaths. They are a customer focussed/driven business too, and seemingly most of their customers are not seasoned OW swimmers. Ultimately though, a ‘devil may care’ stance would see them in hot legal water at some point.
