Kona 25

1,2 and 3 for me

Just confirmed via email it’s a 2 day Kona in 2023. Surprised, but I guess inevitable.

Yes, just got that as well, can’t imagine how much more expensive the accommodation will get?

I’m really cooling to the idea of Kona, luckily I wasn’t likely to get there :joy:

Just got the email. Hotels will be much sharper in 2023 and realise that they can charge significantly more. With the Coronavirus disruption, I think that it was a smart move in 2022 to do 2 days, however, I think that it is premature to do it again in 2023, I would wait and see how it goes this year.

I know one top AG female who will be really happy that the WC will continue with a separate race for females, there are 2 sides to this picture.

I also expect significant roll downs in Europe, especially for late season qualifiers, recession, inflation and high accomodation costs will prices the race out for many (most?) people

I can’t imagine the female pro race will get great viewing figures though? If it’s a Thursday in Europe I think people will be less likely to stay up late watching it knowing they’ve got to get up for work?

I’d probably agree with your point about summer European races.

There’s also the slot allocation for the 70.3 WC in Finland, they’re giving lots of slots to the Nordic and Baltic races.

I have my 23 accommodation and car hire booked. Fully expect the accommodation to get cancelled for some spurious reason only to reappear at 3 x cost.

One thing to note is it hasn’t made a massive difference to make slots. I believe 22 has women and older men Thurs, younger men Sat for AG races. Ie many more men overall.

They state 23 will be dedicated men/women days. The women will be balanced up with women for Tri slots. So IMUK has 55, it’s usually 40 and championship races 100 instead of 75.

I’d guess a couple of extra slots each for the big age groups, e.g. M40-55? At the likes of Bolton

Certainly seem to be going after the female market given the lower participation and normal races usually means 1 slot per age group.

From a female perspective it’s a massive win.

From 1 slot per race per AG most of the time to plenty of slots, equivalent to men overall with many less chasing them.

Not only that, they get their own day in the sun, not starting at the back end after the M AG field.

Finally 2 days of feet up/partying while watching the fellas suffer on the Saturday.

More importantly THEY’LL HAVE TO MOVE THE UNDERPANTS RUN.

I’m surprised it’s been split male/female given the demographic of the sport; lots of men applying for gender reassignment if slot numbers go up  Surely it’ll be almost complete to KQ at some events/AGs.

no need to apply, just say.

Double watchathon.

I’d like to see both through to the pro podium.

Presumably though, the guys and gals that qualify for Kona - it’s kinda a once in a lifetime thing, and the amount they spend anyone on races, kit etc etc - u know where I’m going. It’s not a cheap sport. What’s another 6K when you’ve already spent that on a wheel lol… if I took it that seriously I’d rather go to Kona than race somewhere else

So basically, you’re gonna get Covid.

If you don’t get Covid, there’s nowhere to eat or drink, so you’ll waste away.

If you manage to not get Covid and get supplies from ABC, then some of the locals are so enraged with disruption/tourism/newcomers, that you’re likely to face hostility.

If you somehow manage to survive all of the above, then remember that Dig Me Beach is not called Dig Me Beach :face_with_peeking_eye:

Apart from that, welcome and enjoy the island
