Lost my mojo? No there it is!

I get what you’re saying but the alternative isn’t to do nothing, it’s to do something different.

A mate in Oz once told me ‘It’s ok to be an ex triathlete’, which is true but it’s also ok to be a current ‘something else’.

My point was, if you do something different, you are becoming a different person.
I don’t like to use the word ‘developing’, as it implies that you’re getting ‘better’, but change does often result in becoming more rounded as a person

For multiple reasons, I think I temporariliy lost my mojo: I went into the end of the year on a high, probably in my best end of year form ever, then in Jan my motivation was flagging a little, then I got Covid which became a chest infection, and I didn’t really train for 4 weeks, and somewhere along the line my mojo vanished.

I am now recovered and training again, I’ve lost a lot of fitness and put on 4-5kg, however, I am relieved to say that I still love training. My training is not where it was, but that’s also fine… probably what I have been doing was unsustainable

I can’t see 2023 being a stella year, like 2022, but think that I will still do pretty well

I was never anywhere near as good as you but went through similar, for a few years triathlon was life and I was really improving in everything. Our triathlon coach used to publish some graphs of people who had improved and my 5k chart was a constant improvement, my 400m swim time went from almost 7 minutes to 5:51. As you say I was defining myself by what I was doing.

Then my mojo just vanished. It kicked off with missing Lanza, but even when I was in hospital I was thinking of other options for that year, Wales etc, but once I tried to get back into it I couldn’t.

Felt like I worked so hard for nothing and had peaked and that was it.

I know how you feel largely. Im sure you will get it back. Would like to give an inspirational story of how I got mine back, but err, you might have to wait

I am hoping that mine was just temporarily misplaced, training has been good this week, weight coming back down and feeling a bit more normal

Pretty sure I’ve struggled like that since October. I had about 8 big races last year which caused other problems, but then from the 70.3 in StG it was straight back home to winter with nothing really entered this year. And I’ve struggled to really do much since.

But for now I’ve been enjoying the Zwift races, (sort of) the TTT’s in particular and I should get a bit more motivation as the summer approaches, but if I don’t do much this year I won’t be too upset. Work has been a bit tiring as I’ve mentioned and getting a new boss etc. to build a relationship with, luckily he’s a nice bloke.

Although I sometimes think I’m training just to avoid boredom!

Nope…

But i might go back one day…after pulling off the bike after 2 of 3 laps but then having to wait shivering for over an hour until they let me in to transition to get some warm kit…

I finished but nearly didn’t start the run…

Unfinished business there, her back after it.

No lack of mojo for training here, but a distinct lack of races/focus. So just bit the bullet and entered 2 races:

  1. 12th May, an aquathlon: 1200m run, 400m swim, 1200m run, 400m swim, 1200m run. Really looking forward to this. It’s at 4pm in the afternoon and I predict may be a little warm, looking at the stats for May 12th 2022 temperature was 38C :sun_with_face: Going to be so nice to dive back into the water for that 2nd swim. But high likelihood of melting on the 3rd run.

  2. 13th August, Leweston Sprint Tri. Will be back in the UK for this low-key race which is literally 2 miles from my front door. Pleasant bumpy course.

Might see if I can find an oly in SW while back in UK in July / August too. 3 races… call that a season

Fair. That’s a true fact. It’s a basic fundamental. It evolved over time etc etc
