Momentous event cancellation and lack of refund

So never going to see WHU in the Olympic Park then, unless they are playing someone popular?

That’s a bit crappy for event organisers if they have to stump up all of the running costs of their events in advance and only get the cash after the event has run. I can see that putting smaller event organisers out of business.

54k ST holders, 3k away fans and only 3k tickets for the members left…and a 50k waiting list for ST’s

Pfft, you’re lucky.

The only band I’ll be seeing when lockdown finishes is a gastric one :sob::whale2::elephant::pig:

So what is the feeling about UK races this summer and European races this summer …any chance?

Anyone seen these on RWGPS?
This is the official Ironman UK account (it’s linked to from old race packs)

there will be some but probably run initially under Covid guidelines which were tested late on last year. as the season goes by I suspect the guidelines might get relaxed a bit but we won’t be “back to normal” until 2022/3

I’ve bailed on IM Copenhagen. It may go ahead, it may not. But it’s sunk costs 2 years ago and my boys and wife need a break that will actually happen. Without the 10k plus cost of repatriating us all afterwards…

So we’ve “invested” in a week in centre parcs Sherwood Forest, on the basis its August, will probably go ahead, they’ve sorted their distancing measures already and you can probably just survive the week walking and cycling in the forest that time of year, plus having a bbq every night.

Plus…(didn’t tell wife!)…if IM doesn’t go ahead but they use that waiver bollox to not defer the entry, then I may well be holding a significant grudge and may as well relearn the outlaw course for next year, which is handily quite close!!

Has anyone listened to this announcement\update from the Ironman CEO Messick? I’m guessing there’s not much in it.

Might have a listen later.

What announcement/update?

Link?

Got it in an email, and it was on FB.

Cheers :+1:t3:

So…

“We won’t cancel races until the last possible minute, as we’re in the business of putting races on”

Cant be arsed to do the funny strike throughs and put the words he really means.

“We’ve heard what our athletes want, which is more time. And we’ve heard you. We respect that…but…we’re not listening to our customers and doing what we want”

Surely ‘more time’ means - 2 days past our legal obligation to refund you?

Well that didn’t say much other than we‘ll put on races whenever we can whether it suits you or not.

And @FatPom - 100%.

It’s a weirdAF video.
Like they’ve been forced to say something, as better than nothing, but saying nothing would’ve been better.

I’d like to say “Not a chance IMUK or Staffs is going ahead.” but I’m running out of hats to eat

I’m watching, along with @Memphisraines to see what happens with Copenhagen in August… i’ve also got a deferred entry from last year, that I can’t do anyway… I’ve mentally filed the entry fee away as ‘lost’, but even so, expect there will be fury if they defer again and invoke their contractual right to not defer entries again. I might be proved wrong, and they offer me an entry elsewhere in 2022… who knows… but i’m less optimistic not more after Messick’s little video

I have a feeling they might happen TBH, but we’ll get a better idea by May, so I’d keep ticking over for now.
