It does involve swimming though
Yes, this is the downside!
Iāve spoken to a mate to see if he wants to give me some company in the sea. It was perfect down there yesterday. Obviously freezing, but sunny and as flat as a lake.
Last year i did 1 x 20, 2 x 30 and 1 x 40 min swims in the 12 weeks before Cots. So iām aiming to at least beat that if i can. Looking back, first swim was actually 20th April, so iām not far off that already. Hoping to get a few 20/30 min swims in when iām in Lanza in late April, which may help to kick start things ⦠maybe.
I have that wiggle one. It works, donāt know what else to say.
Iāve bought it. and also got some new jammers.
That counts as swim training surely!?
Bought Mrs GB a new cycling jersey as well ⦠just for balance! haha
I like Lomo stuff, British company & the stuff Iāve got - drybak fluo rucksac, dryrobe, neoprene gloves - have been solid. Iāve got the one below which has a drybag to put your flip-flops, keys, phone etc . Itās also dual chambered which I like to have in case one gives out.
Donāt know if the gloves will fit your mahooooosive hands .
Cheers. Same price as the DHB one.
Might order that as well and then send one of them back. See how they compare.
Doubt thereās a huge amount of difference.
Puffin seems popular, think they are some eco thing thatās environmentally friendly also
Me too (and Galibier). I was down in Glasgow so thought Iād pop in to Lomo and have a browse. That didnāt take long, itās the smallest place in the world with pretty much nothing on display. Good products but Iāll be sticking with mail order in future.
Water temp on holiday is 18 C do I bother taking a wetsuit or swim skins?
Skins.

Think a swimskin is a bit much for a holiday dip.
Did my first OW swim of the year last week, 15 mins in Oulton Broad, absolutely baltic! Bought some boots and gloves now so hopefully this weeks swim might feel a little bit more pleasant
Sorry all, taking a break at the moment from stuff (incl no news for about 2 months or so but donāt worry, close ones have told me THE main news - I tell them to stop. Very odd, includes no sport either. I found that the BBC site was becoming my new Facebook - sucks me in, drains me of all emotion, and then tempts me back throughout the day).
So did my April swim Fri and boy it was still so cold that my mouth seemed to go numb, hands nearly numb and feet cold. Thatās also not as hardcore as some of you, thatās with full neoprene (I think itās 7mm) and good heat reflective gloves and booties. Wanted to do 45mins to 1 hour of crawl but gave up after 1/2 hour. Faceache in the cold Loch water.
So I missed Feb due to too many things going on and also not hardcore enough to break ice and go down the martyr road So now have another year to master every Winter month.
Gloves and boots made a massive difference to last weeks swim, looking forward to tonightās dip after a week or so of warmer weather, may be close to not needing any extra accessories other than the wetsuit!
I did a 15min dip last weekend. Yes my feet and hands were cold, but actually getting my face in the water was the main thing stopping any meaningful swimming. Got there eventually and I didnāt hang around long enough to get cold, but I will persevere without boots and gloves for now.
Logged a couple in the last week - first was a bit brutal (8 deg), second was yesterday and a lot better - felt like swimming rather than survival after a couple of deg raise in sea temp.
Only 15-20 mins, 6-700m ish but will now look to extend the time/distance.
I wonder if a neoprene full face hood and one of these might be a winter/spring OW swimming solution:
Decathlon
Regardless Iām not swimming until mid-May in Aberdeenshire!
Local lake is opening this weekend - Iāll try a lap and see how I get on.
Iāve got not booties, skull cap or gloves so will just have to get on with it
