Open water swim season starting

Thanks Toby

Couldn’t really find an impartial take on it with a brief google

It’s my first wetsuit and now in it’s 4th summer and no issues. It is very comfortable. Whenever I’m at a start line there s always a lot of athletes wearing them so I presume it’s popular. I bought it on a hunch seeing lots of ‘best value’ etc type reviews on various sites/ reviews at the time. I treat mine fairly badly too - just pull it on and off and not with kid gloves etc and it s fine.

Another quick check on google has the price ranging between £250 and £375!

Feeling smug with the £120 I’ve just paid!

I’ve got the Zone 3 vision, also paid £120 and it’s now at £245!!! My only mistake was going to the smaller size I could get into, I’m in a SM and still think I should have got the M.

I went for ST - size looked ok on their chart

Yeh, I’m actually out of the weight category (it says up to 70kg and I’m 78kg) but tried them on in a shop back to back and went with what was recommended. M is up to 74kg and is probably about right for me.

Wow. That’s good. Bargain. I don’t think I paid as much as £250 for one… Hope it’s a swell purchase

You can now book 1 hour slots at Shepperton

6 quid. Don’t have to pay at time of booking - can’t see that ending well

15 people in the lake at one time it seems

We’re having a trial session tonight, just committee members to test it out. If it goes OK we’re opening just for club members going forward. BTF have specified that we can only run it for members at the moment, but hopefully if rules continue to be relaxed that may change going forward.

Our lake has had a boom in new members, strange that.

We’ve suspended new memberships to our club to stop that happening. We’ve always kept club membership separate from people just signing up for OW swimming.

I think they are welcome and are being encouraged as they pay an annual sub and help the club funds

My local open water venue (I live in Shepperton).

There were some teething troubles with the system yesterday - fixed now.

Currently only open to people who have swum there in previous years.

Is LCB pinching his bum?

Yeah I gathered they may have had some issues with their new system.

Got myself a slot on Sunday morning

My lake is doing online booking and session 3 weeks away are already booked up.

I’m doing the 7am weekday ones which are less popular.

I have registered but haven’t booked a slot yet.

I have my own private swimming facility :sunglasses:
well, it isn’t mine, but I have permission to swim there…

Would be good to get back to Shepperton soon though.
I know they’ll do a good job.

First swim!

Was about as shit as expected, but the sun was out and it felt great to be in the lake again.

Definitely a bit nippy and yesterday’s rain won’t have helped that.

Also had to use a 16 year old ‘shortie’ ripcurl suit that has no give in the neck or shoulders.
At least it still fits :slightly_smiling_face:

Thicker skin than me.

Sat at home now with a cup of tea shivering a bit!
