Yes, they managed to treat it in May, with ultra-sonics I think, but it has not worked well enough now we are in ‘proper’ summer.
That is why I did not enter it as my first and maybe only full.
Just realised my Avatar is from there, last year the May event.

The last time I entered in 24 it was a 5km run then the bike and marathon.
Time before that was with @Poet where the bike was cancelled.
I won’t be getting burned a third time!

Why was the bike cancelled that seems very random without the context.

It was 30° in the fortnight leading up to the race.
I entered on the Monday.
Sunday 2AM biblical rain and flooded bike course.

I am not a fish and “shall not pass”
See the post I’m replying to and think Lord of the Rings and Gandalf.

Worst of all they cancelled the bike as we were swimming - it was pissing it down though!
Poet and I were nailed in for sub 10s too

Wow… that is crazy.
So was it straight to a run or cancelled?
I could look it up but better to hear from someone that lived it.

No, we had to wait around for something like 2 1/2 hours until they worked out what to do.

Think he took about 20 minutes out of me on the run

So the run happen after a rest?
I should have been clear. I meant how did the event unfold more generally for everyone.
Guess people got cold, hard to start again. Etc.
You maybe but @Poet no chance

Yeah it was a weird one - there was a lot of waiting around in the transition tent, then later around our bikes and cars…
So yeah lots of wet people eating around getting cold.
They eventually got volunteers in position and set us of in a few waves in tt format for the run.
About 20 minutes in the rain came down really hard. It was the right call, there would have been bodies all over the bike course.
Just looked at the results, both Poet and I swam 1:10 then he took 19 minutes out of me on the run. I remember him setting out for a sub 3, can’t remember how far he got with that.

29km. After setting off with David Bishop
I do find that starting a marathon with a 3:49 opening km always helps in the later stages, went through 10km in 41:08 and the half in 1:27:30.
I then fell over on some mud and pulled my hamstring.
Ran back with this

I slipped on some mud, tried running. Failed. Oh well
I’d ran a 1:20 HM earlier that year, having done NOTHING since the ITU World Champs.in 2013. Longest run in the lead up to the half marathon was 10km.
Then did a 4:27 70.3 a few months later.
Ran a 36:30 10km a few weeks before the Outlaw.
Thought I was going well, the weather had other ideas

I remember @Poet had the mud on him as he passed me.
The motor cyclists who help manage the bike course said they wouldn’t go out as the lane we were to use on the dual carriageway was completely submerged. So the race director had no.choice but to cancel the bike leg.
