My mate has stopped volunteering to be a pacer.
A lovely lad and a very fast runner 17;40 is a recent 5 k pb. ( flat fast course )
However as a pacer he is … awful.
20 min pacer …
19:06
9:21 at 2.5 k?
A guy had a few “words “ at the end.

If I’m running anywhere near 20s then I’m not talking to anybody for quite some time!
Yeah, better to bank a whole minute, just in case you slow down too much in the second half, I can see why people complained
I did try and explain this to him ?!
He’s a really really nice guy, running is literally his life.
He was injured ( badly ) two years ago and talked about suicide quite a lot?!
He’s not special needs but is definitely on the spectrum.
Fantastic guy
Great runner
Crap pacer !
Highbury field’s is (was?) 4.5 laps, when I did it circa 2014 it was very busy and I was overtaking on lap 2, given the growth of PR since then I cant imagine how tight it would be on those later laps for the front folk.
Highbury Fields PR is 5.5 laps. Did you miss a lap?
2014 is a long long time ago now for my little brain
Actually, looking at the course map, it’s now more 5 laps than 5.5 as they finish in the lower field where they start rather than the traditional course which starts at the bottom of the lap and finishes at the top, 5.5 laps later.
Just a leg loosener ahead of tomorrow. Jogged around with a regular there for a 29.57
Arrived to hear a 22min pacer needed, so I did that, never paced 22 before, probably went a little hard up the first straight, but difficult to really tell with hills, was about 5 or 10s up at half way.
With about 800m to go, some bod said they were aiming for 22:06, and promptly overtook me, only to attempt a walk at the end, and they still failed with a 22:03… what a muppet eh @BadAsh
22:00 for me, but the only guy who really used me as a pacer did 21:33 so it shows how I was perhaps a little up at the bottom of the hill - at least he was pleased though.
If you’re after a little motivation for this weekends parkrun, last night was the Armagh 5k road race in Northern Ireland. 22 runners went sub 14 minutes. The slowest runner was 16:20 and finished in 219th place. (Results here)
Safe to say I would have come 220th
No Parkrun for us tomorrow, we’re off to Somt in the morning for a flying visit.
Wow, 16m20 was the slowest??? Where did they find them all?
The Armagh 5K has a strong reputation, the Brownlee’s used to travel over for it on occasion, despite the roads often being icy in February. 16:20 would be the back of the Elite race, they used to do other categories on the same night, but looks like the non-elite were running a 3K this year.
Job lot of those hideous puma trainers
I think I’d struggle to do 16:20 for 3k now
I ended up staying local today in case any got cancelled with the weather, in the end it was fine, calm but cold and dry.
Thought it would be quiet as well as another local event was having their 300th but the local running club had a club race on so it was busy
Started off fairly steady but trying to keep in front of the pack and started picking it up from 3k and going past a few people.
Caught some bloke about 3.5k who was clearly blowing hard from his breathing but it motivated him to keep up and he tried to get away but I knew I had a bit left. He pretty much gave up with 1k to go when I went past and put a bit more effort in
Finished about 21:35 which isn’t far off my fastest on that course and it was quite soft on top today so quite pleased after 2 hard Zwift races as well.
Pretty good parkrun for me and a confidence boost as I ran it like I had a bike leg to go for the duathlon next month.
17:37 for 5km 3:35 km pace and 17:47 on the Parkrun clock for 5.05km. If I go again then it would be full throttle and would like a sub 17:20 with the knowledge that it is only February and by summer a sub 17 should be feasible. I used the Streakfly shoes so no carbon, bouncy but had to do some work on the way back.
