Power meters for idiots

Similar results for me. 4iiii left crank Vs kickr '18

I performed a spin down after this ride but haven’t had chance to test it yet

So I’ve since done a spindown, updated firmware on the PM and will retest tomorrow. Will do a 10 minute warmup then 0 offset and go.

I might have to tweak the offset on the PM to account for a 49/51 split which I think is reasonable.

How did you do that, is there an app? Don’t recall ever doing so myself, so probably worth an update. Battery is low as well, so a good time for a bit of 4iiiiiiiiiii maintenance i guess.

Just downloaded the app and added the PM. Was fairly easy. Best to do it whilst sitting on the bike and spinning to stop it going to sleep.

I guess i must’ve done it last year when i bought it. Will give that a go this week

Have been looking at power options for the FSA cranks on my Trinity. Unfortuantely 4iiii are incompatible. Stages do a left sided crank arm, but it’s only available in carbon and therefore coming in at £400 (for single sided).

Started digging around crank based, and came across the below. Online reviews seem positive, and it’s available at the moment for sub £400 depending on which chainset - 172.5 vs 175 and varying chainring options.

Any thoughts or advice? Seems like a pretty decent deal.

I think a few of us would say Favero Uno for under £400.

Yeah get the Faveros

Just did a quick Google and it seems it’s a P2M Type S under the skin which is no bad thing. I’ve had one for years (bought second hand) which has been bullet proof, in line with the general consensus on them.
There’s a few bits on DC Rainmaker about them specifically but he generally just puts P2M in brackets.
It looks like you have to pay extra to get the L/R balance function activated but I’m not sure I’d bother as it’s dual sided by nature so nothing more than curiosity value really.

Ah yes, good call. Had discounted the pedal ones as i thought they were too expensive.

Obvs i’d rather spend the £240 on another 4iiii. But if i’m going to have to move into the £3xx zone, then i guess that’s looking like a decent option. Assume you can add the ‘other’ pedal at a later date, if required.

Probably much, much easier for a total spanner like me to install as well! haha

Correct, but I don’t think many do.

Pedals would be an easy option, provided you are happy with the cleats - what do you have on the Canyon?

A assume changing the chainset to be 4iiii compatible would cost even more? Even if you sell the FSA cranks?

I would guess so, yes. But looking for an ways life tbh.

Spd-sl pedals on Canyon, so no difference there.

Just makes me cry a bit that I’m considering buying a pedal that costs almost half the price of the bike! :man_facepalming:t3::cry:

Wait until you start looking for wheels…

Does the Trinity have pedals at the moment? Spd-sl means you either need the new Faveros spindles (and supply pedals) or Garmin Rally (>£400).

The faveros on Sigma came with red spd cleats as part of the package. So I’d assumed they were geared for that.

Yeah trinity has ‘normal’ Spd-sl pedals at the mo. Think they’re 105 pedals.

If you want Spd-sl on both your bikes (which you surely do) then your only Favero option is:

Good news is you already have the donor pedals, so no extra expense there. Seems Favero do not offer a left only version of their Spd-sl spindles, which is odd. You can buy a left only as a spare, and a charging cable separately. I assume it could be set-up as a single sided the same as the Look version can.

Garmin Rally single sided is more expensive than the Favero Duo.

Cheers for that @buzz but that’s tipping way over my budget now. I can’t justify that, especially if i want to nab some wheels at some point as well.

I’d incorrectly seen these and thought that the cleats looked the same. Now upon reading, it does indeed say Look Keo.

That’s flippin annoying. Why are the spindles alone nearly £100 more expensive?! Back to the drawing board i guess. Cheers!

The spindles alone are actually £150 cheaper, but they don’t do a single sided option.

You can buy a left spindle as a spare part for €286. And a charging connector for €20.

But seems only available in EU, so duty to be paid etc.

Hmmm

It may well be easier, and cheaper, to buy the Favero set i linked to above, and then these Look pedals for my Canyon at £32

Is there any discernable difference betwee SPD-DL and Look?

… or i’m thinking the FSA/P2M chainset may be the cheaper and easier option here.

I’m not going to be buying a new bike any time soon, so the transferability isn’t too important. The next bike i do buy will likely be a roadie upgrade and not for a number of years.

Rabbit hole, rabbit hole …

Alternative option, assuming compatiiblity and all that jazz.

105 R7000 chainset for £135, 4iiii crank with PM for £230, adaptors and someone to fit. Gets me to sub £400 again. Maybe better with some deal hunting.
