Aw that’s horrible
That’s awful
Can anyone recommend a trainer mat?
I know it sounds ridiculous but we’ve just spent a small fortune getting the floor done in the utility room. Trying to pre empt any moaning from the other half about any potential marks etc…
Don’t really fancy spending 50 quid plus on a wahoo/elite for a rubber bloody mat
In the garage I just used an old offcut from the carpet which also helped reduce the noise a little bit, got a bit manky but then binned it after a year or two.
I just use the jigsaw foam mats from
B&Q
Thanks both. B&Q foam probably easier to get a hold of!
The only thing I’ve heard of with the foam is that it can absorb the sweat, so after a while gets pretty rank. But I don’t have personal experience of it, so defer to others
(and more than encourage you to go shopping in B&Q )
I just use a cheap Tesco yoga mat…other brands are available!
I’ve got an off cut of carpet and an old rug for mine, good for sound damping, too.
Or, a cheapo Decathlon yoga mat?
The other thing with the jigsaw mats is that if you do sweat like a pig (E.g. me) they do have the joins where the sweat will go down and gather.
I use them under my rowing machine and weights but for the bike I’d prefer a one piece mat like a yoga mat. (Mine’s in the shed so I don’t use anything, it just soaks into the floor, nice!)
Decathlon sell quite a reasonable mat for £25…
Resurrecting this thread. Not really about smart trainers but more about smart bikes. Looking at eBay you can now get a Wattbike for under £800 or I can get a good discount for a Tacx smart bike. I’ve read and reread DCrainmakers write ups. But I just can’t decided if it’s a worthwhile investment.
I am cycling more again and I know I won’t cycle much outdoor in winter. I rejoined the gym this year but I know I won’t renew that at at the end of the year.
Thoughts? Any experience.
That’s not bad for a Wattbike, sturdy as anything but it depends how old they are, and on things like Zwift you don’t get the automatic resistance.
Have a look at the other turbo thread (I posted on it yesterday) and even Zwift thread, MW22 says there’s something coming later this month that has got zwiftinsider quite excited!
Problem is that they are all likely to be full price again soon unless people are upgrading etc.
As I said, you can’t go far wrong with a wattbike, they are serviceable but things like strain gauges aren’t cheap if that ever goes and it needs to go back to the factory.
I love WattBikes and their programmes, especially when you’ve got the OHP in front of you.
Never used one with Zwift, just at the gym.
I really rate them.
I wouldn’t buy one though.
£800 is an obscene amount of money.
I paid £375 for my smart trainer, which was faulty, I returned it, got one sent back (months later) but by then I’d already had the cost refunded. So it was free
For £800 I could buy an aluminium winter frame and spec it with full 10sp dura ace. (Club mate selling 50cm winter bike with full 10sp mech DA for £275, AlpKit outlet frame for £450, plus some for wider bars and longer stem)
