I try to avoid the term threshold as much as possible. The exception being intervals roughly around what is often termed as anaerobic threshold.

No? then its somewhere between 5 or 10k pace…which is a big range so pretty much meaningless

Stryd, Whilst I don’t have the algo’s get you to run a 10k and base it around that with some maths and then adjust. They also have a run a few times at a comfortable pace and work something out from that. Obviously flawed in both instances if interpretation of effort isnt spot on.

Even with lactate testing its an interpretation of the data at a specific time. I guess this is where “AI” coupled with continuous lactate monitoring devices could be helpful in the future as it can take data in real time and use it meaningfully.

As its a range and varies due to various factors it is near enough for my purposes for myself. I actually take about 5 seconds off my 15km split as 13.5km to 14km would be better but I dont run TTs or fast 14kms. I run hard 15km more often.

I am talking about recently / currently, there are definitely times when 10km would be much more appropriate, like when I’d been doing other training and came back to running.
