Sub 17 5km Thread

Old club now, haven’t been a member for a good 5 years i don’t think. I do remember them having a number of seriously good athletes from back in the day. Some of the V60s/70s etc have some seriously impressive PBs.

My 10K pb is technically a 10,000m, run at the Exeter Arena in 1992? Ran a smattering of low 33s on the road, that was the only time the minutes column read 32.

Slow day in the world of mouldy milk, is it?

Not now. Sound cancelling headphones on. Modern classical music playing. Massive surge of productivity. Tender written and published. Next task.

Microfiche is what you are after :grinning:

As Jeff says, you get the kudos as you can run near 17 off circa 1 week of training, I am looking at a 6 month slog to get there.

@itom150 Mr parkrun PR is a painful 17 on the nose, which means no special list for me,

Went to fast local parkrun to have a crack at sub 17, racing line distance is 5k, GPS is 5.1. Official parkrun time 17:25, garmin 5k time 16:58! Bitter sweet :joy: Getting closer though. Went out a bit keen and faded over the last 2

Oof!!!
Nice work, but shame on the extra 100m odd :sob:

flip it round. I washed the Armagh 5k the other day, 130 men broke 15 minutes, but everyones strava ive seen comes up at 4.90-4.99 km. No 5k PB then

That is a heck of a field for so many to run so quick

It was in Armagh.
You’d run quick

I think the entry requirement is 16:20 and the last finished on the day ran 16:21 or something like that.

The ladies do a 3k and the winner was Olympian Alex Bell in 9:02

So not 6 months as it turns out,
Just 7 weeks averaging 177k a week :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

16.52 last night…

In the past 5 weeks I had been testing various shoes whilst of course getting fitter
Mates Alpha2
My VF2
My old Alpha1
My old 4%
This was meant to be the new Alpha 2 week, but it was wet and the tiles are slippy
Yesterday6 in the Alpha2s…

All performed well other than the Alpha1 where I was way slower than hoped, so the have run out of pop, FWIW I have run about 6-8 marathons, 1 100k and 1 24 hour in them amongst other shorter stuff.

Anyway, I new I was in good shape and I have a half on Sunday and needed to find if the Alpha 1s and me still got on.

I had asked a mate to pace me at 3:30, 3:20, 3:20, 3:20, then run off and win and leave me to it.
However he went off way to fast, but ended up at 3:31, 3:15 (mainly tailwind), 3:21, 3:30 (headwind). 3:20 or something like that.

So pretty happy with that, especially as I am only in theory building at the moment and still have a few more months until my target race.

On a side note, I got beaten by a guy not wearing any shoes :astonished: they breed them tough over here…

Broke the 16 minute barrier with 15:51 at Mid-Cheshire 5k on Friday night. Absolutely stacked field. Ran 15:51 finished 133rd from 700. Downhill start and finish but main problem is the middle of the course is a single car width country lane and everyone goes mental on the start it seems  tried to have a fairly reserved first km (3:05 down hill) and then treat it like a 4 km race but problem is through 2-4 km kept getting stuck behind people and trying to weave around people. Don’t remember anyone coming passed me after about 1.5 km but over took loads. Hammered the last km at risk of not getting a PB in 2:56, still having to move around people at times and annoyingly finished with too much in the tank. Most people were laying on the floor hyperventilating/being sick. I set my watch to cool down and jogged back to the car….I’d rather have been one on the floor with a bigger PB

Nice one :white_check_mark::boxing_glove:
Hefty drive across for a 5km like :exploding_head:

Check out my Strava and you’ll see I kept going😂

Was chatting to a guy who’d come up from Devon :scream: he did run low-14’s though so maybe worth it!

A 14 min would certainly fail my rule of travel time = 100% of race time.

Plenty of people would drive the length of the country for a 10M TT on the V or Levens, and to Wales for the ski slope.
