Very nice! Congrats!
So just for research purposes, who on here has used the Pfitzinger and Dean plans and how did you find them?
Up to 63% marathon shape now according to Runalyse.
Weekly mileage sits at 42% but my Long Runs score is 104%

Optimal marathon 3:20 and Prognosis of 3:49 though.
I don’t know why i bother looking, as it’s clearly not working for my training at the mo. But it’s quite fun to track, and the marathon shape is a good indicator of trends, if not absolute accuracy i guess.
Lots of runners from my old running club used them very successfully. Never tried myself. Lots of MP work, medium long mid week runs and a decent bit of threshold/speedwork if i recall correctly. Don’t quote me on that though.
You say that now…
and Dean?.. or do you mean Douglas?
Pfitzinger + Douglas plan is what I followed. I didn’t get a sub 3 hour time. Stomach issues got me, I genuinely believe bar that, I had the fitness too. On the plan, the first 4-5 weeks are quite savage with some back to back days of 18 and then 24km at medium pace runs being a particular highlight
and there is quite some volume in it. It is not a ‘time on feet’ plan. As GB said lots of medium pace long mid week stuff. The prospect of doing that over a winter would not be appealing!
Thanks!
Being a numpty and getting confused with Pearl and Dean, which is very different!
I’ve bought the book and thinking about basing my training around their 55mpw plan. I’m currently building up my mileage and doing some S and C to get in a place where I can start in January.
Eh?
So you’ve a 2:54 mara, but a 38 min 10km ![]()

According to VDOT that’s about right…
37:55 10K = 55.3 VDOT = 2:55:09 marathon

That V-Dot can eat my shorts
(And I’m aware the below is depressingAF for people who hunt for PBs, but all of the below just “happened” - I ran the mile at 7pm as a warm up for the 5km at 7:20pm on a cold, frigid, February evening on a Derby bypass, the 10km I wanted a 36:30ish, for the HM I wanted a 1:25-1:27)
5:00.7 mile
17:07 5km
35:01 10km
1:20:41 HM
…
I’ve only ever done one marathon, Luton.
In the wind and hail, hungover;
3:31:40
Did a 3:08:XX (according to Garmin!) as part of a 40 mile trail run.
Ran 3:22:xx at the swim/run outlaw in 2019.
That’s measured and certified.
Dave Denton I assume? What is it with that course - everyone I know seems to PB it - even tho our parkrun is pan flat with no dead turns or anything and all on tarmac.
Dave Denton yeah.
Mine was on the old course, before the new flyover was built. (No McDs, Blue Jay pub or any of that industrial estate/logistics place)
It was straight out to the Thulston roundabout and back to Alvaston along the A6.
Why is it quick?
Luffbra lot turn up (or used to) so there’s always someone to hang onto.
Mine were both done shadowing a Team GB female triathlete, hanging on for grim death.
Not sure if I ran out 8km from home and jogged home afterwards, too. Or cycled. Parking was always awful, so I rarely drive.
It’s a bit long, too, so nobody can complain about it being short or the records not standing.
I can’t believe he’s still going

That’s a 37.x
from early 2019 on an undulating course. I had surgery in 2018 so I was still getting up to speed. I’ve not done a 10k since.
You must have a sub 3 in you.
10k race on Sunday is not going to happen as I’ve now got covid
. Assume it’s via kids at school or perhaps the mass start marathon last week.
Nah. Bloody hate the things.
Fill me with utter dread.
Half’s are mint.
Same for the Ironman.
Fulls are awful.
Half’s are awesome.
Yeah I prefer middle distance as well. I’ve only done one full but I didn’t put the hours in.
Hope that it’s only mild symptoms.
That sounds like a bucket list experience
I can see why you have only done 1
2 people I know at Newport this weekend. Both very good, experienced runners (though one was running his first road mara, he’s done a few hilly 50kms etc).
Road maras are just the worst!
Lucern Marathon on Sunday. Foot is recovering and I’m trying to get some gentle miles in… Touch and go whether it will be sub 3 hours or not. Certainly fitness is there, but don’t want to injure myself. Last week I was thinking 60% chance I would do it, now thinking 75%
