With you there, and well done anyway! We forget how hard these things are until it all goes sideways.
Well done fellas, toughing it out is still a positive result even if it doesnāt feel like one at the time.
Well I came 5th in my AG,out of 6!
I wonder what happened here, I lapped this guy, he was walking backwards when I saw him.

Call for marathon investigation
I only noticed because @Sparky and I spent some time early on running with him and another guy. He really just would not shut up and it seemed like heās done every race under the sun and Kona a couple of times.
Apparently had an accident or something and just mainly runs now but something seemed a bit āspidey senseā.
However, if heās the guy I think he is, a Kona result in 2016 checks out. I was surprised to see him, as I thought he was in front and then tells me Iāve lapped him. This was either on lap 10 or 11 for me, so how he comes up with a 3.54 and two missing laps is a complete mystery
I think @FatPom you are being slightly hard on yourself; that was definitely not a s*hitshow. We were together for 20 miles with no drop in pace. From what I saw you were still in complete control at that point but your hips were just getting worse and with your upcoming ultra you did the right thing. These things happen. It is also a good 42km run in the bank.
It was great to meet a real tritalker in real life. I think that I said that I donāt talk much in races and then proceeded to talk for the first 2.5 hours!!!
Cheers @Sparky , I think I felt so bad because I was supposed to be pacing you and if anyone needs a lesson in pacing, run with Sparky, heās metronomic!
Really nice to meet you. Those last two laps were proper cold though! Tell Jan Iām not happy
Yes, I was a little obsessed with the pace, we were a good team
I normally run in just a vest. But at the last moment switched to a t-shirt and arm warmers. I also had a buff and gloves for the first lap. I didnāt take any of these off in a freekinā marathon! I have never been cold during a race; that was a first for me on Sunday. That is hopefully one problem I wonāt have for Comrades
Donāt underestimate the first couple of hours. 5.30am in the middle of June was always a very challenging time to get up for school! And we wrote exams in June in unheated school halls - they allowed us to bring blankets. From about 8am though is a different story.
Oh I know. I did wear a jacket this year fully expecting to take it off after 10 mins. I think that I had it on for an hour
Should have been doing the Malaga marathon now but due to a bit of snow in Manchester our flight got cancelled yesterday. Going out this afternoon to enjoy the 3 day post-marathon holiday and on the bright side I wonāt be walking like John Wayne. I had developed a sore knee (tight quads putting pressure on knee cap, which a few weeks of stretches and not running much definitely helped) a couple of months before so training had been hugely affected so I was only aiming for 4 and half hours because I couldnāt see me getting round at 4 hour pace, so it was probably for the best Iāve not done it. 2022 now over so start thinking about what to do in 2023.
A quick update on my marathon that didnt happen. Was on my ryan air (i know) plane at 5.30 sat am when they announced they didnt have a copilot. The they got one but had to wait for the wings to be deiced, then it started snowing and after an hour had to get off the plane, then a few hours later our flight was cancelled. Managed to get a flight sundsy pm but missed the race. Probably for the best as im not sure how my knee would have coped. Start thinking about a spring marathon now.
Best of luck
Good luck @Jgav
Got the result my training deserved. 3.54.35
Ran the first.half holding back. Got to halfway in 1.55
Was feeling strong so picked up the pace. Kept reminding myself that its easy for the wheels to fall off. And they did.
Pace slowing at mile 21 but was just about holding on.
Last 4 miles was run walk to the finish. Nice to finish on the track.
Fantastic, great work
Congratulations @Jgav
Nice work
Well done
