Just to clarify, I think the physio who gave me that advice (about doing weights when exeriencing pain in one’s shoulder) wasn’t talking about shoulder injuries, more mild pain as a result of swimming training.
Two pairs of Form goggles in the pool yesterday
I can work at 80% doing 50 or 100m reps while focusing on form and keeping the same pace each rep - this is fun
I can work at 90% doing 200m or 500m reps where my form falls appart and I end up swimming slowly and inefficiently - this is just horrible
Going to see if my medical insurance will cover it - costs me enough…
Did some strength work this morning (light OHP) felt fine, rolling my neck and shoulders when I can, and did 1600m in the pool moderate effort. Shoulder getting irritated now though, so more ibu tonight. Will see how ojays goes tomorrow evening.
Goggles are what’s actually driving me nuts at the moment need to get some more clear ones.
I’ll take a pair!
I love a bit of analysis. Swim camp was only a couple of week’s ago, so based on limited data. However, here is an analysis of my pace during swim sets before an after. This pace includes warmup, cool down and drills. The format of swim sets is roughly the same in for all
It looks like the swim camp took 15s off my 100m pace
In the main set, my pace per 100m is now around 1:40/100m prior to the camp it was around 1:52. I feel far less fatigue after swimming. Before I was having to work really hard as I was slower than the front swimmers in my lane - so getting shorter rest intervals, and form would fall apart rapidly. Now I am easily keeping up and rotating as lead swimmer, so getting full RI and working at lower intensity
I have been here before 13 March 2020, just before covid. I had just come back from a training camp in Lanzarote and did a 3800m pool swim in 1:05:13 @ 1:43/100m. We all know what happened after Covid hit, and I lost all of those gains.
The challenge now is to maintain this trajectory. I want to put in a good swim time for the big smack down in Wales on 3 September
Used the Garmin css test workout
400m 6:50
200m 3:15
Result 1:48/100m
Hmm. Good times but thought it would be reflected in a better result.
I suppose my 200m should’ve been more like 3:05?
CSS = (400-200)/2 so a fast 200 makes the result slower.
Ah Bugger, it’s right then.
It’s just a number to measure work against so no worries.
Means my 1:35 100s are pretty decent work
…when they happen.
That’s a pretty decent pace, however, I would suggest that the CSS is pretty accurate.
What sums this up is the classic mantra “don’t count the lengths, make the lengths count”.
All of one’s swimming should either be hard (to build up fitness and strength), or concentrating on technique. But ideally both…
Not sure what has happened to me but I want to go for a swim after work today rather than jump on the turbo trainer? Might have to stop doing triathlons of I am enjoying swimming
Get yourself off to the Drs, something obviously wrong.
I went this morning. It’s overrated.
I thought about going for a swim this week as well.
Thought about it, then thought better of it.
What the Dr’s, swimming or both
Swimming I try and avoid Doctors more than the pool.
swing by my gaff at 5pm today for a BOGOF
If you had beer I might have considered that…
I should clarify, I do actually enjoy swimming. I didn’t do much volume last year so am going through that thoroughly miserable stage of building swim fitness and regaining form. Swimming punishes the lazy
