you will be wet anyway
At least I won’t need to remember my towel
Wear a tri-suit to cycle over and back, ‘dry’ run for your next race.
Any chance you could have a look for my goggles? There seems to be as much chance of them floating in your lido 100s of miles away as anywhere bloody else.
@Hammerer , tried your test set this morning. A bit of a rude awakening, it must be said, hadn’t even had first coffee.
Anyway :
50m, 34s
100m, 1m17s
400m, 6m04s
Was a bit disappointed with the 400 tbh, hoped to nip under 6. But I guess it came after a mile of splashing around and a couple of short efforts, so maybe that’s why.
what does your magic spreadsheet say, is a 22m30 1500 a realistic target?
Anyway, thanks although now I’m proper knacked and have to stay awake at work until 6pm - did you miss this final row of the challenge off your crib sheet
Id redo that 400 again at a later date without the previous fatigue, just do a good 1k WU much like my standard SKIPS. That is a huge drop off I’d be expecting at least a 5:35 , maybe faster. With that 50 I also recon a 1:12 is possible for the 100! If you can get around 5:30 for 400 then no doubt a 1500 in 22:30 is on!
Did you dive?
haha, no dive today after getting told off last time
Only if they’re decent ones.
The old pairs with the knackered anti fog never go missing…
Think I’m getting the continuous arms bit of the fly, unfortunately I can barely kick while I’m doing it. And die at 30m. (33m pool).
Backstroke there’s some kind of push I should be doing under the water I need to work on.
Stroke rate.
Again. Listening to a podcast this morning.
27 strokes per minute Avg. I could be faster.
Okay, here’s my butterfly learner set:
Learning To Fly - Joe X
2000m
WU SKIPS 1000m
Kick drills 200m:
- Caterpillar 50 arms by side, 50 arms ahead, 50 On back 50 Side kick
Pull drills 200m with snorkel:
- 50m Double arm pull lever down and up, kick FS
- 50m One kick and pull but no recovery
- 2x50m One arm fly
Kick 200m
- Caterpillar kick with fins
Fly 200m
- 2x50m Alternate arm and full stroke fly, like 2 left, 2 right, 2 full
- 2x50m Fly into FS
WD Kick/fins 200m
…Wonder if I can do it?
What’s caterpillar kick? Makes me picture wriggling side to side
Pretty much. Wiggling up and down, there’s a side version like a fish too.
Where did you get that name from? What’s wrong with people calling it butterfly/dolphin kick like everyone else, or is it different?
Anyway, getting distracted. Either way it seems like a long session if not used to it. You’ll know where your core is afterwards
That sounds like biondi drill, recovery is underwater? Can do variations 6 kicks 1 “stroke”. And gradually reduce kicks until you get a full stroke length
So 0 arm fly, fly kick on front/back. Never done on side though and not sure i see the point
Single arm fly , usually done 3,3,2 or 2,2,1 as in 3R,3L,2full
Feel like I’ve got a lot to work on as I only had club swims this week, no pool time to work on stuff.
Free: completing the pull
Back: “throwing the ball”
Fly: Everything
Job will get in the way next week as I’m in the office/near the pool on unusual days and in Leeds on weds, my usual big swim day.
Fuck work.
Might mean I can get lifting time in though…
I’m getting somewhere with fly but backstroke…someone needs to put me out of my misery. Quickly and painlessly please. Imagine a tortoise (not a turtle) on its back flailing helplessly. Now put it in water.
Fly, I’m all arms with one kick instead of two but it’s fairly rapid across 33m I think.
After some initial improvements swimming most days in Feb and March, I have definitely plateaued and actually seem to be getting slower. Not sure what’s going on.
Haven’t managed to break 6 mins for 400 yet & seem to be drifting further from it rather than closing in.
Think I’m doing it wrong just mainly bashing out a 1500m swim and then getting out. Find it takes quite an effort of will to do any sort of intervals by myself, easier just to get in and press go for half an hour.
Intervals are probably what I need to do though, right?
