Swimming for Hammers and Spoons

Except without the muscles or personality (at least here)

or fighting.

No, actually it won’t be anything like WWF will it? As you were.

I think I’m the opposite.

I think I’m a lot better than I actually am

I just feel a little cheated as I don’t think I’m too far from a sub 6 (6:15PB) & thought I might be able to join in but you’ve both burst my bubble  .

Probably could have predicted from your previous training, but very good diesel engine with not much drop off!

Go on @Chriswim, what’s your 400m PB? Just have this gut feeling it’s going to make us all feel like crawling back to bed.

May be wrong, but think we are similar ages?

Does the 50 x 50 x 50 x 50 challenge appeal? 50 x 50m off 50 seconds , on your 50th birthday.

(set this q up for a 1 word answer, haven’t I :see_no_evil:)

Proper PB is 3:56 10 years ago, or 4:01 in 50m. Never quite got the elusive sub-4 long course.

Nowadays hammerers guess of 4:30 is probably my best trained target for a 25m pool. Haven’t tested for a very long time, but did 9x400 descending 1-3 easy medium hard ~4:48 long course in a session at my best before NZ.

Coincidentally it is on my list for a start of season benchmark to do some efforts and establish drop-off.

That would be this Saturday coming, the 20th.

However, I only have a Povvo membership at DL, so would have to be on Friday

However, if off of 50s is 1:40 pace I refer you to this from April

There were “rests” of 3-5s every 200m to press the lap button and then look at the lap time, then start again, so 3200m in total

Think that puts me under the required speed/pace

Swim fitness has dropped a bit in the last few weeks, so was glad to dip under 6:00

Last 100m was tough but think my 100m splits were pretty even.
I

I think 100 x 100m off 2:00
or
400m under 5:50
1000m under 15:00

For me:
No way in a million years I’m doing the first :exploding_head:
The second feels like a stretch right now, but a nice target.
Did the third back in April :+1:

Got my numbers wrong

Meant 1000m under 15:00
Basically 1:30 pace

I have a hunch I might have dipped under 15 minutes at Taunton aquathlon 1km/10km some time around 2006/2007/2008. But couldn’t swear on it. Anyway, it some how seems harder work when you’re nearer 50 than 30.

Would like to aim for it as a stretch goal though, having easy access to water at the moment.

Edit: you monster, you then did a 1500m in 23 mins in the same session

That’s amazing. I did a 4:10 in a 25m.

Now? I’d be happy with 6:10.

Yeah, just swim with myself or Bongo and you won’t need to worry about hungry marine life, we’ll be the bait :grimacing:
