Swimming for Hammers and Spoons

I started my swim session in run mode. Realised after 5x100 warmup, watch got the distance right! Incredible!

1:15-1:16/100m :scream::exploding_head:

That’s like actual previous swimmer territory.

The only reason I’m so on the ball with that is from watching the distance count down when running efforts :face_exhaling:…it’s not a mistake I make often nowadays :smiley:.

El Niño did his annual 1500Free today, based on 800 a few weeks ago (10.46) I said sub 20.30 a good goal. He went out in 1:07, 1:15 then settled around 1:19/20 alongside his mate, who is much better FC swimmer. At about 800m , the elastic snapped and he dropped to about 1.22 for few hundred before picking up and doing 20.05. A 1min 42s pb. His mate went about 19:45. 4 other swimmers 3 lapped twice, one lapped 3 times. Great seeding again :roll_eyes: They’d have come 2/3 in heat 1 so pretty poor.
The best distance freestyler in club, a 15 year old girl, went 18.01 but shes in nationals in a few weeks.

I love hearing the juniors moan about having to do 1500m with them all declaring how they will NEVER race it.

El Nino likes it, it’s not “chosen” and is never going to be his best event but only once a year at club champs he can handle! A lot of kids don’t enter it and I think that stupid, it replaces training and is an unpressurised environment with just a few club mates and swim up and down a bit! He’s thinking of doing it at a distance gala in September just to see if he can go sub 20 in a better pool. Hear a lot of how “my kids a sprinter” No he does 50’s cos hes a lazy fuck and clearly doesn’t enjoy swimming!

I didn’t hear the times but the lads were teasing one lad, as apparently his time was good and the coach wants him to do the longer stuff. He was talking about his 200m IM time and how he wants to target that.

And these behaviours in the 70’s are why we have DBS and camera rules these days. Maybe they arent perfect but if it stops any kids suffering then we are slowly winning.

I’ve not posted here for ages. However, anyone following me on Strava may have noticed a very nice improvement in my swim pace this year, coupled with a far more consistent number of swim session.
My last 3 pool swims had an average pace under 1:40/100m, I think that the last one was 2500m @ 1:33/100… granted that session was mostly swimming 100’s with a lot of drafting. I am good at holding onto feet of fast swimmers for 100m, however, if the set is over 200m I usually get dropped.
