I would guess that a recovery swim should be easier than any ‘threshold’

First swim back for a few weeks, I was ill twice or symptomatic twice, maybe it was the same thing? If I miss swimming for a little bit I always start back with a technique focused session. Part of yesterday’s was eight lengths of slow DPS focus and managed a few at 14 per length. Happy with that. I think the improvement comes from using more of the body to power the pull and from that pulling faster through the water.

Just tried my new Christmas pressie, the Finis tempo trainer. Like it a lot, can see we are going to become friends.

Tonight I just wanted a relatively steady splash to unwind after a day travelling. Set it to beep every lap at 1m40/100m pace. It really kept me on tempo the whole way through. If I got a bit ahead or behind, just adjusted pace a little.

Good stuff, glad you like it. They are great for keeping on pace for the long sets your doing.

I was going to do you a tutorial but then mine died :man_facepalming:. Got a new one on order as we use them regularly on our coached sessions for tempo & CSS.

If you’ve not worked it out you press the single button to sync the timer when you start the set. I put it under a cap upside down so it’s easy to press the button through the cap.

i have a swim smooth account with access to their resources…although some of the tempo sessions are a little narrow, we can always put up a ‘session of the week’…

Slacker you would have thought he would have round it up to a Half Marathon.

Does that mean he started at just prior to 1am?

(Its moving time so maybe midnight?)

My wife got me one Christmas 23
First time I used my tempo trainer, boxing day 2023, it worked its way out of my swim cap, I spent 10 minutes looking for it. It had washed up on the far side of the pool.
Panic for a while trying to find it.

It’s a pretty quiet beep, to me at least. Was a bit worried when I first got the thing out of the box that I could hardly hear it, even held about 6 inches from my lughole, although Mrs FT could hear it from across the room so maybe it’s acutally loud :hear_no_evil:

I have had a mild cold, which may have made my already pathetic hearing even worse.

Thankfully, strapped up against my bonce underwater it seems to work OK though.

Do you not have it under a swim cap? Thats the way, ditch the clip thing.

4x400m at 1m35/100m off 7 mins, had planned to do 6x400m but arms said not tonight

As long as it directly touches your head it’s really clear, have mine sort of between temple & ear.

Changing subject - on the plane yesterday we watched the film “Young woman and the sea” about the first woman to swim the channel. Great film, 100% recommend. Without giving too much away there was a slushy scene that brought tears to Mrs FT’s eyes, and a scene with jellyfish that brought tears to mine :scream:

Just tried a timed 1500m in the pool with my wetsuit on and the bleeper gadget … 22m27 :scream:

However this doesn’t count for 2025 swim goal of 22m30 because that needs to be non wetsuit (although may change that goalpost if it’s not looking good by late Spring…)

Shocked to see how much difference the wet suit made though - think I could have gone a little faster too.

Brought it over for open water oly on Friday.
