Swimming for Hammers and Spoons

if you are using your neck to raise your head, this should not affect your legs too significantly and can be addressed by minimal changes to balance.

if however you have raised your torso to raise your head then this is likely to have a more significant effect on your balance and thus your legs…

Went for a swim this evening, after about 25 minutes the Garmin only said 1200m.

Was lamenting my woeful counting and fitness, thought I’d done 1500m. Although I’m not usually THAT far out.

Then when I got home I remembered I’d set it to 20m lengths on Friday to have another crack at 1500m PB in the 20m pool :man_facepalming:t2:

Which, incidentally, was nowhere near… bailed out absolutely cooked after 540m on pace. Not feeling optimistic about ever hitting 22m30.

Our main set today was a 16min TT, swam it at 1:32 pace, 1175m. Pretty happy with that & rounds out a 14km week.

this is why none of y’all can swim, should be doing this at 6 years old

Not a lighthearted issue if this is as the video makes it look

without knowing all the detail…this is possibly child abuse…but need to understand more…

after winning the NCAA title in his first year (back to back including his win with the Sun Devils last year) sounds like he’s fallen out with the TSU director. Seems Bob wants to find rough diamonds and coach them, Texas wants to recruit to win. I hope he ends up coaching a small programme somewhere as its a big loss to swimming if he doesn’t find something other than a desk job. Perhaps he can come to BSC and help Tony

Sounds like more America First bull shit to me. Let me know when they discover the detention camps. Oh, wait…

Pretty pleased with 15x100 avg 1:34.

Although it was SCM with 30s rest, there was no degradation over the set.

good effort, taking longer rest is not bad, means you are reinforcing the improved technique rather than taking 10 seconds and getting sloppy as you tire. You can reduce the rest over a few weeks and will end up going off 1:45. or consider doing 50’s once a week as well at a fair pace

for instance building up to last weekends super series performance assessments I had a boy who 6 months back came to me with about a 5:45 400m, we knew he had to go below 5:20 to get anywhere near a pack on the bike. One of my key weekly sets was 12 * 50 off *** holding ~37 seconds we went off 1:30 (for 50), he struggled but over a couple of months of twice weekly set, gradually got that down to a couple weeks ago did 6 * 100 off 1:30 holding 1:14-1:16.

He went 5:10 from push start. It was like proud dad moment when he sent me his times on Sunday.

(caveat that was just a small part of the swim week, but the key part of it)!

Still on the swimming, for some reason I can’t get out the door on Mondays it seems so it’s still a bit of pressure to get the three in the rest of the week.

Paddle work today, 200s at 1:32-1:34 “moderate” effort. Man, if paddles were allowed in IM there would be more DNFs but I’d still be loving it.

My club membership/unify has been unfucked so should be able to pay now

Sunday was a club night alongside, and in the non-club lanes it was 1:35 pace swimmers - it was like a swimmers paradise…compared to the floaters in the same pool this lunchtime. FML

@joex Dont bother with LAC for next 10 days or so. L1 gala starting tomorrow for 3 days, and next week is British Nationals!

Couple of names gonna be there for the Legacy meet, El Ninos friend is in 50Free heat with Ben Proud. What an experience! Max Morgan racing 100Breast this morning also.

El Nino got 100Br this afternoon, 200IM tomorrow morning and 100Bk Saturday morning. Unlikely to make evening finals as he is classed as Senior, no age group finals.

Entry times are like 21. V 25., thats a long way in a 50! Shows the difference between the Worlds best and decent national level juniors. The average fan of any sport often doesnt realise just how good the Elites are.

I mentioned on the OW thread about a 15 year old losing his life at a local lake. One of el ninos club mates was at school with him and a swim teacher that assists me with the wee nippers tonight knew him. The lake was closed, so no lifeguards, and the kid(s) jumped the fence to get in, but he couldnt swim and got into difficulty. In what way is it acceptable that kids over 9 or 10 in a first world country are unable to swim. A basic survival skill, that should be taught in primary school to all. Something that should be non negotiable, regardless of background, ethnicity, financial means.
Sad unnecessary loss of life, unfortunately it will likely end up with the symptom being treated, ie closing the lake, rather than the source of the problem.

we have a different approach to water compared to europe…had he been born in france in particular (at least in the countryside) he would have been in and out of the lakes and rivers and learnt some respect for the water…

we can always cancel some swim club time to ensure pool time so that everyone learns…but i am guessing that he hit the deeper, cold water and gasped…

Schools use pools in daytime usually, but it comes down to more pools, and far cheaper access, which will never happen. Many schools cant afford the costs to make it a regular thing. There are cultural, financial and time issues outside of school but within the school day swimming / self survival should be up there with English, Maths, learning to tie your shoelaces and the Green Cross Code
But money

Although my parents also got me paid lessons which was more water confidence and basic swimming, we did also go with school for a few years.

Always thought the same tbh, I know some kids are reluctant to do any exercise but at a young age that should be a bit less.
