30m?
where does bad form originate? Fatigue and laziness. Laziness/Sloppiness in CD I see a lot, and with the tri kids I tend to snuff it out by doing other strokes or kicking, which is a common swimmers cool down for a similar reason. I might break the mold and do drills in this section also, just as it slows them down and encourages them to focus leaving the pool with good memory.
no…don’t be a wardie…where does getting out opf the pool when form deteriorates originate?

I have no idea if Im honest.
nor has he ![]()
In the soviet era, swimmers did not make the squad if they did not complete the training…and were pulled from the water if their form deteriorated…
oh I knew that, I thought it was something pre-dating the soviets you were on about
I’ll go back to my wardie podcasts ![]()
And shot iirc
more like Sloggers every day…
Ask Alan, it is his point (i just picked some arbitrary speeds). I don’t know enough about swimming or Popov to comment on his training. AC mentions him a lot because of them both being at the AIS at the same time.
AC suggests that it was Popov’s slow swimming ‘perfectly’ that made him so fast. I don’t think the same logic applies to most AG triathletes. Which is the point I am trying to make.
@Hammerer i have seen the Leeds masters sprinters training and they don’t swim a lot but guessing they did at school age. One is/was a world record holder and multiple World masters gold medals.
Cam Mcevoy does about 400m a session over 3 or 4 days. They take 2hrs still. He may do a set of 8 x 20s with buckets for some off 10mins
Herbie Behms favourite set for his swimmers is 25yds. They suit up, swim 25yds and if they beat the time on the board, go home. ![]()
Do you think aliens swim well?
It doesn’t but it should…
Now they inhabit the seas, yes, certainly…
Long drive home after coaching, started thinking about this. On the HPCP, 2018, a guy had an EP. Cost about 50k installed. At that time it cost him £300 a month in electric just to heat it. Im assuming thats closer to a grand now. Rent in Canary Whalf cant be cheap either! If we go best case, even at 600 for heat and 1200 rent, you will need 15 hours of £125 lessons a month just to break even. Add other bits, minimum 20hrs
Thats ~5hrs a week of EP lessons just to break even (and even then Im not convinced) and we’ve not even begun to cover the initial pool and infrastructure outlay.
Thats a lot of sessions to barely make a living.
Welcome to the world of coaching.
Welcome to my world.
One is/was a world record holder and multiple World masters gold medals.
D.E. still competing?
Yep, still rapid.
Thats a lot of sessions to barely make a living.
But you’re right that it is a money making scheme. Just not for coaches!
A bit more testosterone in the Whiteoaks pool today. The slowest swimmer said “he’s fast isn’t he?” And gestured to the second slowest swimmer.
So I gave the second slowest guy a five second head start, and caught him at a moderate pace after the turn.
Very confusing, but it triggered me. ![]()
I won’t survive if I stop swimming regularly at the LAQ. It’s so out of the way, but for the office.
I had a funny interaction with two old boys the other day. I was merrily swimming 25’s and 50’s, some faster than others and I cross the pool to use the steps to get out, no one else in there and the 2 old boys were blocking the steps and as they moved aside, one said, "can we have our pool back now I was too embarrassed to swim, so I smiled and before i made some nice comment the other said "you were a bit slow on that last one wasnt you, need to work on that.
the fact anyone thinks I am fast is mildly amusing though
