TCS London Marathon 2026

It will become the new competition.

I’m impressed though

Walking a marathon must be even grimmer than running one & for whatever reason she’s done it, hope she’ll gain the confidence to train more and get fitter and keep on an upward tick

One would perhaps hope so…but I am not sure that’s where the value lies…

Sawe could have genuinely been back in Kenya in the time it took her to finish

Potentially double the slots though!

Not sure how I feel about that, two days, surely it has got to dilute the experience.

We were talking about it in the office, it would be slightly annoying if you finally got in and one of the days, the day you did it, there was seriously adverse weather. The person I was speaking to has already done it.

Either way would love a starting place.

What will it do to the crowd support? Would people still watch both days? All the volunteer / charity stations, do they have to support for 2 days.

The public that go to watch, do they go for the elite’s and stay for the masses, or go for the masses? Presumably the elites would all be on 1 day - or would they split men and women - we all know how splitting the elite men’s and women’s races across different days goes down well with competitors and locals alike!

Brasher previously said the idea would be to hold the elite women’s race on one of the days, alongside other women to have gained entry through their previous marathon times - and wheelchair races.

The men’s equivalents would take place on the other day, with mass races across both days.

when is the draw?

… that was my other thought.

Do they split the Men and Womens elite day?

I think it’s the masses, the overall spectacle and or seeing someone they know. It’s pretty difficult to spectate to see an individual though.

Let’s suggest all female one day, all male the other day. Pretty simple huh? Can’t see anyone taking issue with that…

There was a thing today on the BBC I think that said if it happens Elite women on Saturday and Men on Sunday. The crowds would probably not change much as there’s stats along the lines of for each runner there are about 4 (it’s a big number I believe) point something people supporting them.

The work for charities would be much greater though for sure.

I suspect the logistics of closed roads (would they open again as the race passes on the first day) must be quite a conundrum.
