PISSED OFF :face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Still felt the half marathon in the legs…

…but, Quicker than last week by 12 seconds and for a lower power :muscle:t3:

24:33 on the WORST COURSE EVER

286W AP / 291W NP
(293W AP / 303 AP last week)

Changed the PX82/101 to Zipp 404 FCs because of the wind (which was actually not as bad as forecast and slightly less than last week)

Just couldn’t get up to 296W this week, stuck at 291W.

Got home and have animal intestines wrapped around my non-drive side crank and hub :rofl::rofl:

I reckon it’s my crap position, currently set up for IMUK, also…I look HUGE :sob::sob::sob:

Can’t see too much wrong with that position?

Mantis arms may help, I think broad shouldered/wide torso types are quicker hiding behind mantis arms to divide the air out front rather than having the air slam into the torso through the gap?

Our worst course last night, 2nd Covid on Monday and a tough 1hr 50 mins on Zwift earlier sapped 20w and 30 secs from last time I rode this course 2 weeks back.

Last club event on this course next week; never ridden a 23:xx on it in 7 years (Pb 24:09). We have a target…

From the side (coming into a junction here, so looking up)

I’ve looked at the AeroCoach bars and pads - £270, seeing as I paid £400 for the bike, it’s a bit hard to stomach :see_no_evil:
A helmet with a tail might be a bit better, too - like the Giro Aerohead

Depressing, isn’t it?
I know I can do >25mph, just not on this Godforsaken course :sob:

Looking at the side on I think a medium tail would fit really well to ease the airflow over your back.

Met wide body, ensura aero switch type - I have a similar shape which is blocked up nicely with the right helmet:

You’d be quicker with a front wheel

Cheers though, I’ll take a look :+1:t3:

@TROSaracen - woah! Those Endura D2Z helmets are awesome - two helmets in one :money_with_wings::money_with_wings::money_with_wings:

Been eyeing up the aero coach bars and pads, don’t know what’s better - helmet or those?

Saddles too high
Drive needs a jetwash

Garbage tonight.
Entirely covid vaccine fault.
Personal worst on course.

I’ve got a fundamental issue of not being able to hold any power on flat. Just ebbs away.
TT going on turbo Monday . See if can cheat the power indoors or if I really can’t ride this bike 🤦

Awaiting the official results but according to the Strava segment (which seems pretty accurate within a couple of seconds)I had a 25:32, 20 seconds quicker than last week and 9W increase (HR 1bpm higher).

Conflicting info on the conditions compared to last week, mywindsock says it was better conditions this week due to wind, though it was cooler. But general feedback from others and quick review of other people’s times suggests most people were slower.

EDIT to add more info for my own future reference: Changes to prior week:

  • ++Wheel cover compared to FLO 90. Didn’t bother with valve hole cover (forgot to bring scissors).
  • ++Giro Aerohead Ultimate rather than Specialized Evade helmet
  • ++TriRig Omega One brake, but dodgy cable
  • ++52/36 chainrings (compared to 50/34)
  • –Bike jersery (race fit) worn as colder

@fruit_thief the wheel cover held up very well. That said, it wasn’t particularly windy. But looks as good after the event as it did at the beginning. After my tweaks chain rub in the big cog was minimal, I could use if I had to. I think one of my zip ties is perhaps 1 notch too tight for optimal fit, but I can’t be bothered to take it all apart to adjust that.

Did the 25M TT today on the road bike, conditions weren’t terrible but it was barely 10c and there was a shower for a few of us, the wind was fairly light and generally across which was a bonus but didn’t always feel like it. Course is reasonable and I think there might have been a couple around 49 minutes give or take, the Strava segment is a bit short.

Wasn’t really feeling it and put out 266W AP which was about 20W less than August last year, but I was on the TT bike then and it was a bit warmer I think, but not much. Also had a bit of an upset stomach and actually might have been better if I had been sick, problem had my breakfast too late!

Anyway, still reasonably pleased with a mid 66 under the circumstances, and for an average HR of about 162.

Might make an effort to get the TT bike out if it ever gets warmer!

Ghastly cold/showery sporting 20 yesterday. Didn’t feel the love, 1min15sec and 10w worse than my last effort on the course.

10 tomorrow; ran a brutal half marathon today so not expecting much…

It clearly wasn’t a slow course\day the way Duggleby and someone else went past but even with 2 tops and gloves on I wasn’t warm.

Forecast isn’t good up here tomorrow, hopefully better for your 10, good luck, a tired effort is still a decent training ride.

Finding a huge difference between the power I can get out on Zwift compared to road. Trying to work out if it’s a position thing, training, type of course I’m currently riding.

FYI there may be a difference due to different power meters. Indoor I use Kickr out door I use powertap G3

Zwift FTP per ramp test 314w (upright)
Tempus Fugit I’ve done under 30 mins for 20k at 310w average (upright)
I can do around 270w in TT position on zwift
Today I did 37.10 for 20km 221W NP - undulating and crappy road surface, admittedly as part of a sprint duathlon.

Any advice on what I can try to narrow that gap?

When you work it out @Jgav let me know. Same boat… similar numbers.
Doing some tests tomorrow

Zwift in the TT position?
My power on the road is higher than Zwift.

Which makes me happy.

Well you need to validate them both I’m afraid, until you can know if it’s a genuine power difference rather than simply reading we’re nowhere.

TT’s are high inertis, indoor can be very, very low inertia, so there are certainly differences, although kickr obviously shouldn’t be that low - what resistance do you use though?

Bike now ready for the limited 2021 campaign

Upgrades for the year are the WattShop cups, Geomedized Tri saddle,JRC jockey wheels in purple as picked the wrong colour and a Giant bento box for the 50m TT and the MD Duathlon next month.

I pimped my second bike for an expected first DC assault on the E2/10 next w/e. It’s a 2014 Canyon with 58 1x set up, then got rejected. The event closed on 19:50 FFS…
