The Wintering

Tights are worn by Robin Hood and no other man. HTH.

I think it was Belgrade airport at the weekend and a lad was walking around in full compression tights and top but with shorts over, it was quite the look in 30c heat and he didn’t strike me as requiring recovery from the garments :joy:

This is the deciding factor for me, I’m not allowed to wear a (London marathon volunteer) pink T-shirt, so tights without shorts is off the menu.

And the combo is good for when the cold wind is blowing.

And white of course.

If we can put the lycra covered savaloys to one side for a moment.

I’m fairly balanced & resilient - some might say stunted - emotionally most of the time, but saying goodbye to summer always brings me down & I definitely have a few wobbles before getting used to the colder/darker days to come.

Doubt I’m alone.

Nope, trying to process it myself, Garmin sunset has gone below 7pm for the first time today  and when the clocks change it’s really a case of gritting my teeth until Christmas. I know it isn’t instantly light at that point but by mid January it starts to get a bit longer.

The few days in Italy will hopefully take my mind off things but January and February feel like dead months.

The nights start drawing out from about 11th December but only seconds a day… the mornings get darker later until about the 5th Jan… hence the shortest day light hours in the middle of those dates

Being a morning person it is those dark mornings Christmas week and first week of January that get to me.

Yeah, certainly going to miss the smell of hot camel this winter & sea swims in December sans wet suit.

Agreed - this thread is part of my bracing for it. Accept the autumn has come, switch over some kit, tidy and arrange the pain cave, so I’m ready ahead of time. A bit of a ritual to help.

I do like autumn runs at least. :maple_leaf::fallen_leaf:

Perfect day for running today

Acorns and dry leaves underfoot felt very autumnal

Cycled into work last Friday, first time the gloves have come out but still in my shorts, can’t change them until the clocks go back, it’s the law!

Okay next poll; pain cave gear

  • Bare, dusty, cluttered, but utilitarian fan and trainer
  • Immaculate, powered riser, air con, espresso machine, live stream cams, Zwift-like utopia
  • Rusty wheel-on turbo pressed against disease-ridden disused toilet bowl

You missed out cold, damp and miserable :joy:

I don’t have any fans, unless you count the giant spider in the corner who appears to have lived for 15 years

Summer kit never goes away. Just buy a bigger house for more wardrobe space :man_shrugging:

Buy a winter bike so it’s always got mudguards on :man_shrugging:

Yeah. I just whack on a coat from the wardrobe of coats in there.

Streets be fine for running. No treadmill needed.

No ramp test needed.

Outdoor kit is worn indoors and out. It’s just kit.

HRM is on my watch. A vague idea is fine.

Winter daily mailers? Shoes? Bikes? Meh. Bikes are always clean. Shoes never.

Don’t drink alcohol.

Don’t follow a plan.

The end.
