I’ve just had a look at the route, I drove along the main interstate that is just to the north of it between Sacramento and Reno. Some of the scenery was lovely heading towards the Tahoe forest. Hopefully you’ll be able to see some of it.

Sacramento was a reasonably nice place but not much to do beyond a day or two, and depending on how long you are there it isn’t far from San Francisco.

I’d echo this. Been to Sacramento a few times times due to work taking me to Rocklin. Not a whole lot going on really. (bloody great bowling alley )

Thinking a few days at Lake Tahoe beforehand.

Not sure to fly into SF or Las Vegas?

Lake tahoe is lovely. I’d fly in to SF if I had the choice. We did 3 weeks in NorCal for our honeymoon and it was ace. I, personally, have zero ambition to go to Vegas or even SoCal (on the whole).

Don’t think we did Sacramento. Trying to remember now. Though we did go hot air ballooning, and that may have been in Sac.

I only went to Vegas for a few hours but my initial impression was one of complete cheesiness and pretentiousness. But each to their own and I’ll admit that it isn’t me. But I’d like to go for a day or two just to confirm.

Quite a few things in SF and that area but it would probably be nice around Tahoe.

Just depends on how you want to approach the race, have a holiday and tick the race off, or have a go at it.

I remember being in SF and thinking ‘it’s nice for a city’. But that mainly being based on the fact you can get out into the wilderness pretty quickly. So probably not a great advert! :joy: But Tahoe area I’d happily revisit.

Loved Yosemite, Mammoth lakes and that area. Good memories. :+1:t3:

But that’s divulging from the thread! :joy:

I don’t even know where the WS course goes!

Have been to Vegas before - feel like I have been there done that and no desire to ever go back

Have done a 3 week trip from SF to San Diego down highway 1

Thinking of flying to SF, Lake Tahoe, Olympic Valley for a few days before race start and then week in No Cal after - wine country perhaps

WS course runs from Olympic Valley (previously called Squaw Valley) to Auburn which is near Sacramento

The people I know from the UK who have done the race previously have flown into San Francisco. Love Lake Tahoe - I really cant decide how much time to take off before hand
