Just 3 runners left.
3 out on lap 103 - world record lap. Just amazing ![]()
wow, unbelievable.
work to do @Sparky ![]()
Can someone remind me… there are now two runners left, if one completes a lap and the other doesn’t, does the one who finished the lap had to do one solo, or are they the winner when second DNFs?
Yes, you have to do one lap on your own as I understand it.
That’s what I thought but was doubting myself.
Lunacy!
I thought that @FatPom, but you just have to do one more, which has just happened. Canadian dude walked back at halfpast the hour ish and Harvey came in to find he has won
108 laps , no problem ![]()
Oh right. Yeah I guess that makes sense because I think I watched one race where there were two left and one guy just didn’t start the lap and they declared the other the winner.
I get a bit confused because there seems to be ‘Backyards’ and ‘backyards’. I wonder it’s a Laz/licence thing?
Interesting statement from Gary Robbins about UTMB putting out a Whistler race . Typical big corporate behaviour pushing out the small guys .
There’s nothing I can say that I haven’t said many times, but FMD!
Just read this again, I like his pluckiness here but I predict a fail, at least YoY.
I would like to take the time now to say that Coast Mountain Trail Running are officially announcing our intensions of launching a BC race in direct competition with this event, in September 2024.
A lot of support on twitter etc for Gary Robbins and very critical of UTMB/Ironman
Yep I noticed that. They must of chucked a load of money at the resort at Whistler.
Rightly so. The whole circus is laughable now. Stephen Cousins is saying that there are plenty of indie races to do if you don’t want to support UTMB.
Geez, where have I heard that before! ![]()
After this mornings park run … I need some advice.
I have as much interest in muddy long runs as most of you have in hyrox / numbers comps!
BUT I have one pair of trail shoes k Swiss efforts
I wore them when my calf popped at Crewe, and I wore them this morning, now my left ankle/ Achilles is quite sore, I’ve done 16 1 km efforts at 5:20 pace this week in Nike carbon shoes… legs were fine?!
The bottom of the trail shoes are literally Rock hard hence the lower leg problems when I wear them.
Anyone recommend some “ softer “ trail shoes or are they all the same?!
I’m not assed about my park run times but a slight limp afterwards is a problem I do t think I need to have
Stiff trail shoes can be an issue mate, are there any tarmac sections? That’s will do you in pretty quick.
Trail shoes generally come in 3 flavours. Aggressive for soft mud but horrible on tarmac. ‘All rounders’ which depending on lug depth can be good for various seasons but more importantly, can take some running on the road. Then you get the cushioned vs the fast, that’s really no different to the road shoe effect.
Most good ish trail shoes are not overly stiff. If you’re feet are not too wide, a good all rounder would be the Saucony Peregrine. (I personally don’t get on with it but millions do). They are up to version 13, so if you can find a v12, might be a bargain.
Hoka Speedgoat on offer also good if you can deal with ‘clown shoes’. I’d avoid anything from Nike, they are generally crap.
Also, bad insoles can have a marked effect.
Changing to the asics trails were a revelation for me as they were that little bit more forgiving. Like you, I’m not planning on doing 100 milers on trails and mud. I generally do the odd 10-15 miles on trails and the asics have made that so much more pleasant. I still dig out the Salomons when I expect a really muddy run because they have better grip for that but I tend to choose not to run when the conditions get ridiculous.
So basically, yes, there are some pretty good cushioned trail shoes out there that may be better for you.
