Staying just outside as it was getting expensive, but only there a few days before moving on. It doesn’t look that big and I doubt I’d be running for a few days after anyway.
Already checking the weather

Day 1 of a 3 day Dragonsback recce weekend. Did a wet and windy solo loop of Cnicht and Moelwyn Mawr, though stopped short of the summit of Moelwyn Mawr as the wind had picked up (gusts of over 80kphh) an i was having trouble staying upright.
21k and 1400m vert.
Next 2 days are organised recces of Tryfan and Crib Goch, tomorrow looks less wet but just as windy, Sunday looks dry and “breezy” (gusts of only 30kph)
Hope the weather is kind - Crib Goch is fab in the right conditions not sure I would want to do it when its windy and wet . If you go to the top of Tryfan - dont forget to jump from Adam to Eve ( I say this , but I was 17 when I did that - not sure I could do it now ).
It was a bit too wet and windy to try anything much on the top of Tryfan other than getting off the top. The climb up the west gully was a lot easier than my failed attempt, I guess going the right way helps. Lots of useful tips from the guides as to the route. 14k done at a leisurely pace. Crib Goch tomorrow and the weather looks good.
keep going Doug
Day 3 - Crib Goch and the Horseshoe. Weather couldn’t have been better, dry, bright, sunny. and light winds The scramble up Crib Goch was fairly straightforward, the ridge was a bit nerve wracking though. The summit of Yr Wyddfa was busier than Piccadilly Circus though. Once past the summit things things got quieter though. Another 14k in the mountains ticked off. That will be tough finish to day 1 of the Dragonsback.
A big thanks to RAW Adventures for the looking after us.
Alistair Brownlee is running the Yorkshire 3 Peaks race this weekend, will be interesting to see how he goes
Very good fell runner, would expect him to be near the front.
One of the guys on the Dragonsback recce weekend took some video of Tryfan and Crib Goch - does my bum look big in this?
This weekend I’m back in Wales for the Rasus y Bannau Ultra 72k on Saturday.
About 20k of the course is shared with the Dragonsback so this is a partly a recce.
