Trail & Ultra Running Thread

not arf

on the basis of the rescheduled events I will have UTMB, Thames Path 100 a week later and Cartmel trail race 2 weeks after that. I am hoping that all of these races will be going ahead (not that I will be able to do all of them) which means that things will be a lot better. A really tough time for the race organisers.

I have Newport Marathon in Oct now but I was hoping to keep my UTMB points going by doing RttS and then some SWC events again but that late season is going to be very crowded. I bet a lot of events sell out.

Two down…

My plan is to get down to local Sports Direct today or tomorrow and get some Salomon trail shoes; lots of opportunity around the house for off-road, whilst the current situation continues.

I’ve been in long chats with my mate who owns a trail events company, talking about cancellations vs. postponements etc. Likely to cancel the first two completely for 2020, as not much cost sunk into them yet. Wait a bit longer for the later season events, see how things develop. These few events make up most of his family’s income, so a worrying time indeed.

2 running mates now comfirmed in isolation with their kids showing symptoms. Feeling real close to home now. At least the weather isn’t as bad as it was a month ago. We’d go absolutely mental in my house if we couldn’t get out (kids aren’t big fans of cold and wet).

Three down …

The local 55 in a couple of weeks has also been moved until later in the year.

Autumn is going to be very busy, assuming things improve.

1 of 2 down
Rose of the Shires 54miler postponed (no new date yet)

I feel the Ultra Scotland 100 will go the same way

Got a reasonably pointless email off UTMB saying they still hope to go ahead but will have to monitor the situation.

Could have probably worked that out for myself.

Got until late August but training for it will be tough, I’d normally use the cumulated fitness from races over the summer.

Good opportunity to work on strength and conditioning Jeff - prepare those quads for the downhills? Cant see it going ahead myself and we will all get rolled forward to next year.

Not the worst thing in the world with all the shit that it currently hitting the fan.

I get a screenshot from an RD mate of a Facebook site with some muppet complaining about races and refunds…and who’s name do I see on that particular section of comments, but good old @Hammerer! :joy:

I’m WFH

I think its now a good opportunity to work on strength too /lose weight. I tend to run at 5/5:30 am so have managed to avoid people . And am glad I still have the opportunity to get out and run .

I was reading somewhere that someone ran a marathon on a 7m long balcony… I think my garden is about that long - so needs must if we have a full ban… take care everyone!

You’ll have all of the River Mersey trail path to yourself at that time of day now

Keep safe!

On the slight chance that UTMB does go ahead I’m really struggling with the Dr’s letter. Mine backheeled me for no good reason except they’ve never seen me :frowning: , despite my previous doc who is still at the place doing one for ADH tri a few year’s back without any tests etc.

Obviously I’m not going to argue the toss with them in the current climate.

UTMB can’t waive it as it’s French law although they could give people more time to get it signed, current deadline is 31st May.

So, does anyone know of a private practice etc. that will do this kind of thing for a fee, I’m doing a quick google and got a few places to check, but if anyone has done it can you let me know.

Realise I’ll probably have to travel which should be alright soon, Manchester area would be an option.

heard someone recommend sportsmedicalcertificates.com but haven’t used them myself

When I asked my GP I was told to go the Bupa centre. They will do if you cross their palms with enough silver.

I’m looking at BMI which looks like another private chain. Going to be annoyed if I pay and it gets cancelled.

Not exactly sure how they expect people to train for 100k+ races in the current climate though.

Thanks though, I’ll check them next.

Western States cancelled at the end of June. All entries rolled over to 2021. No need to do a qualifying race this year as long as you had a qualifying race for 2020 race. I assume that you will be OK Pookey with the HK100 as your qualifying race for the 2021 ballot/2022 race?
