That’s just part of Day 1 and some of the toughest terrain - whilst important to make good time given you have a very long way at that point is pushing hard for another 20 mins going to cost you later or are you feeling that is at steady pace and under race conditions rather than recce pace?
It was a really interesting perspective - his comments about how hard it was struck me - and made me feel a bit better about a DNF.
Similar comments from @p00key ‘s mate on a recent podcast who is a really good runner
Yeah I was thinking of you both when listening. IIRC he said if you’re not beating the Centurion cut off by at least 2hrs, then you’re not finishing WSER.
I was being a bit cautious having twisted my ankle on Skyrun Eryri 14 Peaks a few weeks ago, so I was not pushing hard on my recces and feel that I could go a fair bit faster on the runnable and walkable sections without impacting the rest of the race (so long as I don’t inure myself again).
I’ve got a mate having a crack at a Bob this weekend.
Would be keen to give that a go one day.
Forecast is a bit rough with lightning and thunderstorms, I saw someone had moved their attempt forward to yesterday.
Supposed to be a bit boggy in places as well after last week which is a bit surprising.
Hope he pulls it off!
You should give it a go, probably a doddle for you if you get the support team and correct lines. Follow the route Killian took! It’s on Strava
This - I think going forward I at least need to be more mindful day to day about how to look after my body keeping fit and getting regular runs in , when I eventually do get in ( I really hope before I am 60!) I may stand a chance.
You would I am sure smash it. I would offer to do some recces with you but I fear I would be a country mile behind your pace
Exactly so - IMHO need to be fighting fit at lottery time rather than trying to get so afterwards
I never realised that the BGR started life as a failed ‘40 peaks’
How is your mate going @gingerbongo ?
Just finished. Nipped under at 23.45 I think by the looks of his tracker. Awaiting confirmation.
Brilliant. Was it one of the CSW crew?
It was, yeah. Chap I ran the north coast with last year.
23.15 he said in the end. No wind or rain and uncharacteristically warm and humid made it super oppressive.
Entered last night subject to the medical certificate! What could go wrong
Also booked flights from Manchester to Naples for about £150 all in with a case.
Should probably tell the GF
Was also looking at the 40k Arc in January but fook me it’s a long drive!
A lot of things pending on Tokyo at the moment
Do the proper one then and it’ll be worth it.
I’m not falling for that
I hear the weather in Tenerife is lovely in March
