@p00key - how was your experience pacing at the 125 with @kemptonslim ?

A week on from Thames Path, my left leg is still not right (sets up obvious gag for comments below)

Upper achillies to lower calf is still super tight

I can now walk without looking like a complete invalid

Used the massage gun on it yesterday which was painful at first but felt a bit better after. Need to get some foam rollering done and start doing some exercise or lose my 122 week streak on Strava! Frustrating as my right leg felt fine and could have joined the pre-work work run club on Tuesday otherwise.

It has been an amazing experience - a really tough race but Jon did amazingly in the heat and altitude . I ran the last 50 miles with him at 6000/7000ft which was hard. He just got in under 52 hours to get his WSer ballot and UTMB.

The bonus was meeting Rachel Entrekin the outright winner of Cocodona 250 - a grounded lovely person (I could not smile as my lips were sunburnt )

I have been looking at new trail shoes

Most of the Salomon ones (my usual go to brand) have a drop under 8mm - these are guaranteed to crucify my achillies

Most other trail shoe brands when it comes to the lightweight racier type of shoe also goes less than 8mm

Has anyone used insoles to raise the level of the drop and any recommendations on any makes if so?

I’ve had some custom ones in my road shoes but not convinced they’ve helped if I’m honest. I went to see a guy called Jonathon at white rose just outside of York if you’re looking for an assessment. I think they do cheaper off the peg ones as well.

I use a mix of three insoles.

The Inov8 Boomerang, which are a great all rounder.

The Enertor Running (green) ones, which have a slight cant. They are ok but quite slippery when new!

The others are ‘Superfeet Carbon’ and I really liked these, they have a cant that you can feel. Not a spongy as some but overall, I think I like them the best but have moved away from them in the last couple of years and I’m not exactly sure why I did. :man_shrugging:t2:

Just got a pair of Peg T5’s out of the I’ve had for a while, stickers inside are a loose map and countries of UTMB

Went into a running shop today on our stop (in the most hipster town on earth it out-hipstered itself), nice little spot. Then I looked up their socials. I saw they’ve got this event on Saturday

We head to Boulder on Friday

That would be so cool to go to. I am still buzzing from being in Flagstaff and meeting Rachel ( gutted I didn’t see Courtney though). I think Flagstaff was one of my favourite places. I really suffered with nose bleeds though - more to do with the dryness then the altitude I think. Need to wear my ‘Run Flagstaff’ t-shirt as some point

My Dad used to find this a problem in the Alps if it was particularly cold and dry, a local Dr recommended a little bit of vaselne up each nostril before bed, seemed to work.

I’ve struggled with this. I think Tuesday was the first day I didn’t have one this holiday. We’re at our highest point now in Buena vista at ~2400m. It’s hard work being this high when we live so low. I laugh at my Mt. Ventoux tote bag I have with me that declares its peak at 1910m. We’ve not been below 2000m since Friday.

The reason why I have never fancied races like Leadville with average altitude at 11,000 feet
