Great effort @YKK. I’m hugely impressed that you had the ability to make any sort of calculations after 200km of running
@YKK really impressive run, and excellent race report. Hope you now have a good sleep and a few day’s recovery, you certainly deserve it
Next year, probably after Easter (Corona Virus allowing), would anyone be interested in a long weekend in Switzerland to do a bit of trail running and cycling? Fly in Friday, back to UK Sunday night or Monday. Out of ski season, flights to Zurich are cheap. Would probably do a similar route to the one I did this weekend, with options for shorter run. Could also combine with a gentle Saturday ride, I can probably find / borrow a few bikes.
That sounds appealing, depends on travel and whether I go to America or not.
fantastic work . well done .
in the same vein as ykk’s exploits - https://ultrarunningcommunity.com/32-article/press-releases/1473-kilian-jornet-sets-his-sights-on-24-hour-running-challenge?fbclid=IwAR2ePA-Zm5z9sp0__lo0mIoU0Kp1cGJfn0ukJNZ5ZEYkTmydHTGxYOwWzoY
when reading this record I saw the 24 hr record at 303km which is staggering - 12.6km per hour for 24 hrs.
Brilliant, better than brilliant, fucking outstanding cousy bro.
I got the registration emails from UTMB today, they are starting in January for 2021 and the first week are people with a guaranteed entry from this year, and people with enough running stones.
Then lottery entries for people that missed out in 2019 & 2020, followed by a general lottery entry if there’s any places left.
Giving it a miss next year, got other things planned and not sure it will go ahead so I’ll wait until 2022 instead, which might end up being what I’d planned on doing this year.
According to his socials Kilian Jornet is going to run 24 hours on the track sometime this week
I am doing 2021 UTMB with a mate who is a few years older than me - we were supposed to be doing it this year - he says that realistically it is his last chance to complete due to his advancing years () so don’t want to put it off another year
I might throw my hat in the ring as I think my qualifying points will expire otherwise. Seems such a faff now though.
Yeah i saw this. Seems a bit odd to me, but I guess he’s just trying different things out.
Personally I’d take a solo up Everest vs a blimmin track 24 any day!
Could go either way really. He’ll either smash the record to smithereens or he’ll fade badly/dnf. It’s such a different demand on the body.
What we’re the records for the 50m and 100m? Weren’t they set recently by that American lad? Pretty sure Courtney Dewaulter or maybe Camile Herron (if I recall correctly) has set some pretty insane times on the track.
@jeffb my plan is to get a place at UTMB in 2022 as well
@YKK what did you do for nutrition? did you do a mix of solid foods and gels?
The only problem with UTMB is ‘planning’ and reality can be different things. Normally, you’d have to figure three years in the plan to work through the lottery but with so many of us on carry over points from last year, gawd knows what will happen now?
And that bloody doctor’s letter!
Part of the reason I’m missing next year is because there’ll still be problems getting one I think. I was even struggling to get one privately.
helps when your fellow runner is a GP
Just catching-up on this thread. That must have been an unfortunate chain of events for Chris Smith to perish; I can only assume he fell and seriously injured himself and was either unable to use his mobile, or didn’t have one with him.
Sometimes these things things feel close to home. Stay safe everyone. Thoughts go out to his family
haha - amazing!
That’s fortunate. My previous doctor did them for ADH triathlon but my new Doctor won’t
