I am in a rush today so here are some tips of top of my head
Winners lay down from 1st lap
50 minutes is sweet spot per lap (we had quite a hard course though)
Eat on the go and sleep at base. I did the opposite despite this being my plan
I had a bit of everything I may need laid out on a plate on a table by where I sat/lay so I could take what I want. This included multiple types of liquid
On the first lap you will go too fast. But find somewhere halfway ish as a check point for each lap. Doesnāt need to be precise, I had just over 3k at cicra 25 minutes, if I was there by around then I knew I would be ok.
If you forget to start your watch, dont worry as each lap starts on the hour, so just switch to the time screen
A guy next to me timed out because he timed out whilst having a dump. This also needs to be planned inā¦
If I think of anymore over the day I will postā¦
Good luck, it is a head fuck. I went 18 laps, pretty (very) crap for me, but gives you a target
Thanks. This is really useful. Thereās a few covid based rules I need to get my head around which might impact exactly what I can do but lie down, eat on the go and 50 minutes per lap should be the aim. Will also need to check previous results to see how quickly the field thins out and plan some toilet stops relating to this. Thereās only 4 portaloos for all 141 entrants plus support crews so I donāt want to be timed out queuing for a crap.
This is interesting stuff. Some of it useful for my Endure 24, although that is a different format. Weāve hired a motor home for the event which has a shower and toilet, although our intention was not to use it.
Solo runners ( and pairs I think) get their own camping area really close to the course to cut down on wasted time.
I like the idea of a half way check per lap. My fear is that because it is continuous, it might be easy to fall into the trap of thinking ā Iāll make that up laterā .
Each lap is 7km, so it if I did 1 lap p/h, after 20 hrs Iād be at 140km with 4 hrs to cover 22km ( for 100 miles) which sounds easy on paper!
Anyway, weāll see what damage SDW does first. Endure 24 could turn into a few laps here and there and a lot hanging out at the motor home !
Was going to aim for around 5am - how about you - fancy meeting up at the start to run together for a while - having a decent chinwag can help the miles go by?
I always apply TCās rule of ultras - if a ball would roll down it, in an ultra, walk up it
A lift would be fantastic - will save Mrs T from having to get up at silly oāclock - we are staying at the Mercure next to the cathedral if that is ok?
I know exactly where that is, as we used to live on St Thomas St, which is the other side of the cathedral. We can go via Arlesford Rd and pick up A31 from there.
Iāve snagged a ticket on the second shuttle bus, so will be leaving my car there anyway.
First 4 hours completed at Suffolk Backyard Ultra. Course is very pretty 95% trail. Exposed bits are hot, hot, hot. With current fitness Iāll be very happy if I can make it through the night. So 16-18hours hopefully.
Probably a bit fast at 42ish minutes per lap but otherwise going well
9 hours in now. Eating much better than I normally manage in an ultra but definitely feeling the lack of training now. First big marker will be 12 hours at midnight. Hopefully the wheels stay on at least until then
