Yes great effort @Matthew_Spooner . Been brilliant watching your progress and tracking you.

Im afraid youve not inspired me to do the same, in fact youve put me right off  . Especially that crappy mountain stage with the non road and no barriers. If i was there I would have called in a helicopter rescue and put it on my credit card.

Thoroughly enjoyed following your heroics @Matthew_Spooner & @Sowler .

I suspect I’m more disappointed this adventure has finished than you .

Enjoy eating everything you can lay your hands on.

I was really pushing to finish and for the very first time I got my nutrition wrong (ie no lunch). The final 30k on fumes were really horrible. For me a proper breakfast, lunch and dinner on an event like this are critical.

The thing that makes TCR different and so tough is the parcours. Each one is more difficult than the last. That’s ncredibly tough to cope with mentally: when I add it all up, around 1.5 to 2 days (out of 14) were off road

Yeah same. What the bloody hell am I going to do tomorrow?

Looking forward to your update tomorrow @Matthew_Spooner

Well I’m going on holiday.

I may have planned a 600 mile trip round Wales today for when I get back.
There will be no gravel

Congratulations :tada:

Matt an awesome achievement - chapeau Sir.

Well done @Matthew_Spooner :exclamation::tada:

I loved the Captains Log and was gutted for you both when Sarah crashed out, after being chased by a pack of hungry dogs. The updates were brilliant. You both looked like you were having a great time. Can’t wait to follow you again next year. Hope Sarah heals quickly.

Congratulations @Matthew_Spooner. Really enjoyed the updates on Instagram - the good, the bad and the ugly. What an achievement. I have no idea how to even contemplate riding that sort of distance on smooth tarmac, let alone, rough tarmac and the horrendous gravel/parcour sections. Bet that beer went down well at the end.

What everyone else said! Congratulations to both of you (and Sarah). @Sowler maybe not the desired outcome but what an adventure! @Matthew_Spooner just brilliant.

I have no desire to do such an event as it sounds too hard so have total admiration for those who do.

Gosh John, felt quite emotional reading your instagram stories this morning. What you two achieved was just incredible and those dogs…I would have been so scared. You both come across as being genuinely lovely people, who are great fun to be around. I love the pictures of you two laughing at ridiculous situations, particularly the one of Sarah at the Hilton. Congratulations again to both Sarah and yourself and yes, those white chocolate and mint covered pancakes do look banging

Ditto Annas. @Sowler and Sarah were brilliant. I loved the Captains Log and I really hope you return next year. Next time take a catapult for the mad dogs - LOL! I’m missing the Insta updates from @Matthew_Spooner, @Sowler and Sarah. What an incredible race they’ve all had.

I went onto Insta and realised I have no idea what an instagram story is.
Decided to have some breakfast instead and contemplate being an old git

EDIT - found it, there just weren’t any previously as I don’t follow anyone and hence there were no stories to display!

My Instagram stories detailing the last few days are still up as I only posted them last night. They last for 24hrs. I’ll try and add a highlights thing so people can see the whole lot, with no time limit.

Thank you everyone for all the really kind messages we both appreciate it so much. We’ve tried to keep things real, fun and interesting as we both feel ultra cycling does have a bit of hardcore serious image at times and perhaps that puts some people off. Although we met a lot of really cool and interesting characters on the road.

I’ll try and write a de brief once I’m back at my desk.
