Trans Continental Race 27th July 2025

I forgot my pass for work the other day - had to turn round and drive back home for it - cost me about 20 mins and that put me in a foul mood for the day

500km detour is beyond nuts

Like going to parkrun and forgetting your barcode. Just go home mate; no point.

They are certainly made of different stuff to me!

Meanwhile looks like Spoons is in for a cheeky Maccas

At least he has some company today

Correct me if I’m wrong, but they’re not allowed to pair up though are they. Even if they’re in the proximity of someone else (which can still lift your spirits) they can’t ride and chat together?

So TCR is non-drafting?

Yes something like that. Certainly can’t ride 2-up etc… I’m not sure on the finer details

It’s like they really want you to suffer alone isn’t it! One of the good things about normal events is you can buddy-up and it’s part of the experience.

Given 4. above, your man who left his wallet could hitch a ride back to get it, so long as he cycled on from there. A bit like Matt last year getting a ride to fix his bike but them going back to the break point before continuing on.

No 3rd party lodgings?

Does that mean no hotels?

I guess it means people’s houses and/or your mate following along in a camper van type thing.

Hotels are fine, I believe you can’t have pre-booked them though, and yeah, no sofa surfing

No, if the bike is rideable safely he can’t use anything but his bike, someone asked TCR that in the comments.

Last year a rider got DQ’d after the race for riding too close to another rider.

I’d literally just screen-shot that, myself. A 540km round trip to pick up your passport and wallet. I really can’t get my head around having to do that. Would you just be spending the next fortnight kicking yourself for making that mistake? Guess he’ll never do that again.

And yet the guy who took a ferry only got a small time penalty :man_shrugging:

Looking at the current leader #2 Robin Gemperle. He’s built such a massive gap already, he’s only been stationary for nine hours, since Sunday evening. Unreal what these riders put themselves through.

How old his he? Must be seriously wrecking his body & mind in the process; I wonder how long it takes him to recover.

I just took a look at Matt going through the mountains. They’ll be so confused to see him going the wrong way
