@Matthew_Spooner and @Sowler taking a slightly different route to most of the field, atm. Fascinating to see the different strategies and routes being used, even early on.
210 isnāt in any hurry
Looks suspiciously like a jelly-fish. Luckily Fruity isnāt riding.
Iām seeing a coronary angiogram
(Which incidentally is probably exactly what Iād need if I ever tried this event)
Not going to see many Maurten moves with all those different routes.
Iād defintely go via Germany, as there are no speed limits on the Autobahn.
Iāll be seeing one of them this week
Where is #12 heading. Miles away from the direction everyone else has gone in.
Matt and Sowler both moving along nicely. Big mountains now. Matt has stopped for 26 minutes with 19 hours moving time. @Poet should approve
Looks like a river delta to me
Yes, thatās more like it
Recent GCN video about the length of a coffee stop.
The answer is zero.
It occurs apres ride.
Quite amazing how little they are stopping as they go through 24hrs. The leaders (as far as I can tell) numbers 1,2,3 seem to have stopped between 0 and 15mins! At nearly 700km
Matt is getting close to home territory.
Just seen @Matthew_Spooner and @Sowler 's Strava for the last 24h. Both over 540km, now in Switzerland , and the maps look more like flight plans than bike rides
Incredible stuff
Looks like theyāve both paused in Mulhouse and are pretty close to each other. Switzerland has really slowed people down
I guess they all need to sleep?
A but of the old āTommy Simpsonā will sort that right out
Surprised by how little elevation to this point. Under 3000m in over 500km of riding. <1000m/100km is a pretty flat ride in normal circumstances.
I donāt really get the Leaderboard distances either; I guess time at Checkpoints is the definitive measure.
I would imagine route options between CP 1 & 2 will be limited, due to the mountains.
#67 is seemingly āhotā on Cristoph Strasserās heels, and yet they have him in 65th
Is there a reason people arenāt going via Thusis from the north? Looks the less circuitous route through the Swiss mountains to CP1. The route the leaders are taking is very snaking, south of CP1; whereas via Thusis is more ādirectā, especially if you see some of the minor roads on Google Maps.
