17:54 and regretting it now ![]()

Steady effort on this weeks iTT, 28:40. Doubt I’ll be trying it again this week.
26:38 this morning.
Ha, Cat A, uphill start and 3 long tough races in 15 days was never going to make a race easy! Just about made up the numbers!
Wasn’t;t ready for that Burrito at the start. Hard enough with the climb, without having no pack draft
Burritos killed me through out. Just makes it a TT and guys putting out 400+ solo attacks having no issues cruising along.
Start was bad. But the burrito half way into and up the shish was just never ending.
Then teammate threw one in my face at the finish just to rub the salt in.
Snagged p9, team had 4 in top 10. 4 point lead going into final race ![]()
Did the last TT, although I did it as an FTP session, 5min at ftp, 2min easy. Couldn’t face a constant 45min effort, and had a fun yoyo with a couple of guys who must have wondered what the hell was going on.
Might get on this weekend, need to see what happens, was thinking of doing it on Tuesday but did the WTRL instead.
Not sure I fancy the long one either but I’ll see.
Rhino team organise a 2 up TTT. Basically it creates an event time that suits you and your partner.
Pencilled in next week’s on going coastal with target of a new 20 min effort. Find the flat roads so much harder.
Think be interesting how we go.
Like the sound of a 2up TTT. Good idea.
Nice to innovate a bit with the races. Race organisers are fairly restricted in what they can do. For our back2back races on Wednesday evening we have all cat mass starts with 10km custom finishes and power ups. And now every 4th race is all power-ups at banners.
Also see that age cat and masters racing is becoming popular. Just did one organised by Foudre this morning. 70km in total and a LOT racing it. I like the fact you can race your age cat as well as the race in general.
Did you see the world champs hill race on whatever platform it was on?
Whilst not a fan of who GB put in the team, our anorexic friend one of those …. But was an elimination race. Chased up the hill by a laser. Last one standing.
Do worry zwift is standing still with the racing.
Yes, crazy numbers! I had a few BL13 team mates in it - Iker, Daniel, Jill, Lucas.
Quite liked this elimination format, although I felt sorry for the heavyweight sprinters. And agree, there have been issues with weight, on both platforms really. But I know people have been dropping weight via saunas beforehand, then hydrating back up. And very lightweight riders (as we know) having a big advantage,
But the numbers were impressive. Had to be holding at least 6wkg to stay in contention
I’ve always thought they should have an elimination race on the Bell Lap. The question is whether the cutoff is the finish line or the banner just after the hill.
What was the timing of the weigh in?
For lightweight rowing I think it’s less than an hour between each race and if you have multiple races in a day you have to weigh in before each.
It’s definitely not practical to dehydrate and rehydrate
Zwift did the Elite Knockouts competition a couple of years ago, to replace the Prem league. We (BL13) were involved. It was good fun, they tried out all sorts of different formats. I still think the best Elite competition they could have done would have been a league leading in to a knockout - similar to European football. But hey, Zwift knows best. I think they made some mistakes with their elite racing after that, and now they have stopped completely.
But anyway, elimination racing is great and I really wished Zwift had set something up themselves, on a regular basis, or given organisers the chance to do something. But I guess it was too complicated. And they’d prob have to set some kind of restriction on number of entries.
This was the quarter finals of the Zwift Knockouts, time stamp for our race against NexT: https://www.youtube.com/live/EpYG2iCwPGk?si=vD9pwd7JKwB7uCpw&t=7120
4 races for men and women, 5 in each team. The elimination happened on Crit City (Downtown Dolphin) using BOTH banners. Last through eliminated. Was great fun.
I’ve taken part in an elimination race, and organised one, using a private race set-up. Pick a course, number of laps, then the organisers fan view and call out the last to cross a given line. Can be difficult to do as it’s by the eye. But I know some clubs do these races privately for their members. Phil Utley and I were invited in to a Level Elimination, you can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/live/ZiurrwRXZgE?si=U2ehRyySAWuBz5Gy&t=3091
Back to a shorter iTT route this week, about 9k, early benchmark of 13:05, wasn’t flat out but don’t think I’d have been much faster.
Great ZRL course this week. Dynamic
If anyone fancies something different I’m doing a 24hr Zwift Racing Challenge on 25 October from 6am. As many races as you can finish in 24hrs. Join me if you like. Different kind of hurt.
Now that sounds like an exercise in pacing and restraint
