What tri mistakes have you made?

All I remember from that race was a massive pile up on the little rise/bend just before the Tower

Someone was on their tri-bars in a pack

Does it not power off after inactivity?

Went the wrong way at Hayle tri as one of the marshals was not expecting any bikes through at that point. He was sat in his car. As you can guess I lost alot of places.
Marshaling can be tough. I was marshaling a road race on closed roads when a driver mounted the pavement to get past the barriers very angry, forcing people out the way and onto the race course. He almost hit the 2 lead riders (juniors).

you are forgiven my son - a balance sheet of 0 is good in my books

despite being a quite senior TO these days, I must confess to having drafted a little in my racing days. not in big pelotons (although I have sat in these in sportives - great feeling going like the clappers for little work) but at the odd time when the person in front is of an equal speed so kind of just sit there for a few mins having a breather.

my bugbear one was IM Florida coming back into PCB - kind of the last 10 miles. it was into a strong headwind and I was just head down going for it. as we got into PCB itself the wind eased and suddenly about 10 bikes came past - first bloke said “thanks for the tow!” - the bastards had been sat on my tail for a good time while I dragged them along. I was so focused on what I was doing that I didn’t think to check what was happening behind.

My 9:28 at IM Barcelona comes with a big asterisk next to it due to drafting.

There was literally points where it was impossible not to caught in a pack

It does but not sure how long that took. Long enough to drain the battery enough. To make things worse, I realised afterwards that I could have used my garmin watch that was on my wrist all ride.

Phwoar. That’s a solid time though. What were your splits?

That bike includes a stop at the penalty tent, as when I came round a roundabout there was a massive bunch ahead where the tailenders went slower and I caught them

The tent was carnage as so many people got pinged, but there was no where to go at points with packs of at least 100

That is bloody quick. Off of how many watts? 37 km/h is absolutely shifting

Which year was it @funkster, the bike course was slightly short the year I did it, although I think the swim was long.

I’ve got a similar taste myself from the same race, with well over 2.5k people and a lot coming out of the swim around 68 minutes it’s literally impossible to not get held up in some places at the start where the road is narrow. Although when I did it after about 60 miles it got very lonely and split up, I suspect the packs had gone.

FWIW, just near the start of the second loop there’s a little dip, I went past someone before that and they came hurtling past me on the way down, then on the drag on the other side slowed right up and I had nowhere to go, they’d been sat behind me for quite a few miles and I got pinged! I was slightly frustrated given the lack of other penalties given out.

I think I did 4:49 (inc 10 minutes) with about 220W, as mentioned the last 50 miles was a solo TT. But if you get close to the wall on the return you get a little bit of shelter.

My run wasn’t far off that (3:39 I think), but swim was 68, it was pretty choppy, but it nearly always is at that race.

He could have gone faster but his HR might have got into triple digits

Watts look high

I think I might have done that one as well, in 2016 they changed it a little bit and there was a small section up a hill that I think they hoped would thin things out a bit, in reality people either dug in a bit more or regrouped on the descent, it was fast on a wide smooth surface and straight

Actually checked and for mine my AP was 190, NP 200, but I’m not sure how much the penalty affected that.

Watts look high as in they’re incorrect?

Overall or AG?

Tidy, great work :+1:

As in that’s more than I’d aim to put out, but it was 6 years ago, so can’t remember exactly how the race went

I wasn’t aware, or had forgotten you did the first Outlaw. The ‘Hooters’ aid station was underwhelming!
