2021 Goals

We’ve all seen you make great progress this year @joex, I think that these goals are well within you ability if you have a productive year.

Also enter an Ironman for 2022, a flat one.

If I pay the money I am too tight to pull out, so I will do the work

At least make it Roth, Copenhagen, Kalmar or Texas, in fact any flat race other than Barcelona

All running:
Sub 16:30,34,75,160.

The last 3 are very stretch

Depending on how I feel later in the year, be the first person from (what I can tell) to retain the NZ 24 hour championship and at the same time have a crack at the meet record of 234ish k

Was considering Sacramento, but will ask the collectives advice beforehand.

Texas interests me though.

Does being based at Blackpool Sands make it the fabled IM Blackpool ? :grinning:

When I first saw it I thought it must have been everyone’s dream come true :joy:

No goals, just hopes that I race in the real world. Doing IM Wales and the Bastion would be ideal (both deferred from 2020).

Goals/hopes

IM Lanza - have a race that reflects my training, working on the assumption that the training continues in the way it has to date
IM Copenhagen - push on from Lanza, doubt I’d ever get that far up the AG results but top half at least would be good
Escape from Meriden - gold level finish, i.e. 60+ miles as the crow flies
Get to take Mrs S to NYC for her very delayed 50th
Get through another year without punching someone out at Ostrich Mktg

And then… somewhere in the distance… a lawyer’s phone rang.

Increase fitness
Decrease fatness

Why isn’t the run a 30 Miler with weight?

If I hadn’t already entered a race in 2021, that’s the sort of low key event that would pique my interest. I’ll bookmark it for '22.

I really enjoyed the Brutal 70.3 a few years ago.

I have a plan A and a plan B

Plan A
Run the Comrades Marathon in South Africa. Its a 90K ultra and will be my first Ultra.
Goal Sub 9 Hours (It is very hilly)

If that race gets canned then onto
Plan B
Cotswold 113 (already entered) in under 5 hours (would love a sub 1:30 HM as part of that but that is really a stretch goal)

As both of these are in the summer then what do in September . In am looking at a 10K swim in London Docks. Never swum anything more that 4K before so this will be a whole new experience. Based on a 1:12 3.8K evidently this will take me 3:20!!!

Uphill or Downhill?

You’re not a true Comrade unless you do both

It’s a down in 2021

2021 is the 100th anniversary of the race so it will be downhill.

My wife has done both (one will be enough for me) and she found the downhill worse. If you look at the course records the downhill is faster only by a few minutes

Oh yeah, I’m sure dowhill is worse what is it something like 40km of downhill running after 50km of undulations? Absolute killer on the legs!
