In with a shout of a top 10 placing, always good
Spoke too soon. Forecast showery now and windier. Surf forecast is 2’ on Sunday but still flat on Sat and Mon - what’s that about? Plus I went for an easy 5k run yesterday and came back with another little tear in my right calf. Same leg as earlier in the year. Applying RICE and ibuprofen and it healed pretty quick last time but 21k on Sunday might be a bit of an ask. Not the end of the world but a bit of a bummer (apart from the surf - don’t really mind that).
In Oz a crit is defined by length, according to CA. I can’t remember what it was, 3km I think. Anything other than that is a circuit. I’m not at all sure what difference it makes!
@BadAsh I would agree with others about staying near the front but I would advics, in this learning period, to get used to moving around in the bunch, it’s a decent skill to learn.
Like others say, commit to it if you’re going for it. I’ve only won 3 races from a breakaway that stuck but I remember them well from the effort involved, I can barely remember the sprint wins.
Don’t get sucked in by grumpy old bastards that race negatively, they’ll shout at newbies to ‘cover a gap’, the newbie thinks they’re obliged to do that and all you do is burn your own matches. Tell them to do it themselves.
For me, cycling racing didn’t really light up until I started racing as a team and going with a plan. I loved it a lot more than racing for myself, helping team mates who were strong in some situations and not so much in others. (for me, at lumpy road races, it was burning my matches until the critical climb then 'see you after the finish).
I got more satisfaction from helping team mates grade up, than I did from my own stuff.
I liked track best though, you get everything there. Handling, close contact, very spiky efforts and usually a bar that was open afterwards on site.
Okay, so now it’s a yellow weather warning for heavy rain and the winds look strong too. I know I’ve been very lucky not to have a wet race since 2009 but a bit crap if this ends up being a slow and careful bike and then unable to cash in on the run. Vaguely wondering if the deep section wheels on my TT bike are going to be a serious issue. Do have an old shallow Al front I might be able to swap in. Hmmm.
Wow, George Goodwin 3:38 winner at Denmark 70.3 European champs!
(wasn’t sure where else to put this?)
Is LCB still winning the ladies race. It was a head to head with Holly Lawrence wasn’t it?
That’s a good win for George. I saw a few decent names on the start list like Ditlev (can’t remember who else)
I’d completely forgotten it was on until it popped up on my FB feed this morning, and just seen the result. going to have a look at the tracker.
I did originally enter this last year, then deferred to Maastricht, but have now asked to defer that as there’s no entry to Holland for us without quarantine ATM.
Lucy won by 5 mins. Ran a 1:18.
Holly Lawrence second & Susie Cheetham 5th, so a good day for the GB ladies.
68 minute half for George
That’s insane!
Looks like he ran through for the win then. Rudy Von Berg was only 23 secs behind, but GG ran a minute faster. So he just have gunned him down pretty late on!
Made his way through the field at Daytona on the run as well didn’t he?
Yup
Looks like he had the 3rd best bike today, so I’d say he was working his way through the field on the bike & run.
Outbiked Ditlev!
I’ll drop this in here because one thread isn’t enough for my happiness

Well done mate, those triple days paid off! Great work.
Well done
The sister of one of my club mates is leading the bike at IM CDA
This is brilliant. Well done. How you got a 1:06 on the bike with all those dead turns is beyond me. Chapeau!
Is that Fenella? Looks like she’s going well and seem to think she’s an excellent runner?
Yep. her brother Kent and his partner are in my CC. I think she’s a good runner.
Interestingly, her wheel sponsor shares an office with my mortgage broker!
