They’re shit.
I hate them.
And I get anxious in OW mass starts.

They feel like you’re not in a race and they don’t even feel “Covid Secure” you are corralled into a pen, centimetres from one another, waiting to start.

Utter bollocks.

Don’t sugar coat it @Poet, what do you really think?

Two of my friends who did it both had the run as 5.6 miles on Strava.

Did you beat Sam Hopton today?

I’ve said it before.
And I’ll probably say it again. :man_shrugging:t4:

Imagine a 10km race going off every 3s.
Utter madness.

Great racing everyone!

Here’s my Southport standard report. Alarm at 3.45, car packed by 4 and set off . Admin stuff all went well, good work Epic team.
TT start swim, I started about 20th? First buoys 1-3 caught the people ahead and into the lead as we go round island. Woohoo, wait where am I going?? Next buoy 4, following one 7. Faffed about looking for support crew, no one around. Chap behind caught me up and was heading to 7, so cracked on. A few people turned at 4, which it turned out was wrong! Time was 21 min. T1, couldn’t get arms out of wetsuit, straight jacket style, goggles and cap in mouth, dropped…twice. Messed around with nutrition in pockets, time 4 mins :see_no_evil:
Reasonable bike mount, and felt OK on bike. Out and back flat, need to work on smooth pedalling. Plenty of space on the course. Time 1hr 4. T2, numb feet, couldn’t feel a thing, it was like putting on trainers blind folded. 4% with elastic laces were fine, though I’ve cut up my heels up a bit, so I’d probably grease them up next time. I was holding ~3.55s and felt fine, starting to wind up to final k and realised I was at the finish, so 1.2k short, time 35min 10. Overall 2h 7. HR strap bonked mid bike, I think on reflection I could have pushed harder (easy to say now! )
Really enjoyed racing again. I know TTs are the norm now but I look forward to mass start racing again, it definitely helps me push harder!

So 1km then.
That’s pretty bad :scream:

Especially for an ETU qualifier. :flushed:

THIS :clap:t3::clap:t3::clap:t3:

Good race report

Jury is out then Poet! I will update my thoughts next week after I have the full experience.

Nope. Couple of minutes down.

He was in the big boy ITU race. Not sandbagging like me

Looking at his times

Our swim was similar

Smashed him on the bike.

Smashed me to pieces on the run. A v strong 16:42

Yeah he’s a very quick runner. I’ve spent many a race being way behind him. Still the only guy to out kick me on a track session! :joy: Even the faster runners I can normally beat on a single short rep.

So the 10k I did the other week then?

Well that’s just poor design. 113 was not like that at all. It was about a 500m long line of spaced out people in bubbles, and you only joined the line for your wave.

And as for the race part, maybe I’m different to everyone else, but that really doesn’t factor for me

I have to agree with @Poet, i missed the top spot by 20s last week, the winner was in the first heat/batch in the TT start and I was in the last batch. You are totally blind to the results and what is happening on course.
Like you @stenard i train on my own exclusively so pushing myself isn’t the problem but not having the chase does kind of suck. I might not have overcome the 20s but I would have destroyed myself trying though.
Oulton Park in 3 weeks if anyone is thinking of going?
